It was a couple weeks after the snow day. I went back to school, I hung out with Leo.
Something was going on with Lisa. She was very paranoid most of the times. She wouldn't tell me, but I assumed it was something at home.
Life settled down and was molded into a routine.
Lorelai, Rory, and I would get breakfast at Luke's, then I would go to school. At night, Rory and I did homework. Then, we would all watch a movie on the couch while eating take out.
Lorelai had learned about Rory and Dean. She had not been happy. But after inviting him over for dinner and a movie—and threatening him—she had decided to let them be and they were officially together.
Then one day, Rory had an announcement.
"Hi," she said to me, walking into my room.
"Hi," I said back.
"I have question for you."
"What is it?" I asked, turning around in my chair to face her.
"So, in like, a week, there's a...function at Chilton. Like we dance and stuff," she squeaked. I grinned.
"Rory, are you saying there is a dance at your school?" She nodded.
"I was going to ask Dean to go with me, but you can come too—if you want—with Leo—or Lisa. I don't care."
I smiled. "Sure, I'll ask both of them!" I went back to my homework.
"Okay! You two!" I yelled to Lisa and Leo, who were talking to each other at a table outside of the school. I ran over to them.
"Hi," Leo said, turning away from Lisa.
"What's up?" Lisa asked, rather quickly.
"Rory is going to a Chilton dance in a week—and she invited us!" Leo and Lisa looked to each other.
"A dance a Chilton? Is that going to be all tux and ball gowns?" Lisa asked. She hopped off of the picnic bench and the three of us walked into the building.
"I mean, sure, but it would be fun! And you know, if we don't like the scene, we'll get hammered drunk and we'll run a muck around their fancy school!"
"I like the sound of that!" Lisa mumbled.
"Yeah, and we can vandalize the classrooms!" Leo pumped his fist up in the air.
"Don't get that crazy," I warned. Leo smiled and crept his hand towards mine. Our fingers intertwined.
Lisa rolled her eyes. "Get a room!" I blushed. Leo laughed.
"Mom! Is my dress ready?" I ran out of my room.
"Just finished." I looked at the dresses. Rory's was beautiful dark blue with sleeves that went off the shoulders.
Mine. Mine was the better one. It was dark green, long—just like how I asked. It touched the floor.
It was a perfect fit as well. Very light and comfortable.
"Wow! I outdid my self!" Lorelai gasped as Rory and I twirled in our dresses.
There was a knock a the door suddenly.
"Lisa's here!" I ran to the door. It was not Lisa. It was Emily.
"Lorelai! You bought them dresses! I'm so happy! They look gorgeous!"
"Thanks, Mom," Lorelai mumbled. She did not buy them. "Why are you here?"
"I'm here to take pictures of the girls and their dates!" We were silent.
"You do have dates, right?" Emily's eyes seemed to get smaller. More criticizing.
"Of course!" I said as Lorelai's face turned angry. "We both have dates—and my friend Lisa is coming!"
Emily nodded. "Well I hope you two have fun. Now, pictures!" She got out an small polaroid camera.
Someone knocked at the door.
"Now this is Lisa," I said, running to the door.
"Hi!" Lisa walked in sporting a pink mini dress with spaghetti straps. I looked her up and down.
"Eh, you'll be fine."
"Huh? Huh?" She asked.
"Hi, Lisa," Lorelai said. "Nice dress."
"Thanks, Lorelai!"
"Lisa, this is my grandmother, Emily. Grandma, this is Lisa!" Emily looked at Lisa like she was a hooker.
A few moments later, we were done with pictures and waiting on the boys.
A car honked.
"Oh! That's Dean and Leo!" I yelled running to the door.
"Lorelai! You're not going to let them go like that, are you?" Emily said. "Lucy, Rory, get back here!"
Reluctantly, we went back to the living room.
"But, Grandma, they're waiting for us!" Rory whined.
"No. Ladies do not run when men come calling." For a few moments we sat while the car horn honked. Then it was silence.
Someone knocked on the door. Rory, Lisa, and I ran to it.
"Walk," Emily corrected.
When we opened the door, Leo and Dean walked inside wearing tuxes that they clearly did not want to wear.
"Should we go?" I asked, putting my arm through Leo's.
"Yeah," he said back.
The five of us went to the car and started the drive.
