"Hey," greeted Lisa as I entered her house.
"Hi. How's CeCe?"
"I don't know. How about you tell Auntie Lucy how you're feeling, CeCe," she said picking up the baby. "'Oh, hey, Auntie! I'm doing great—just being an absolute menace to my mother, who is the sweetest human to have ever walked planet Earth.'"
I snorted. "She's not a puppet, Lisa. Or a doll."
"Trust me," Lisa breathed, "I know. Dolls do not cry like that."
I sat down on the couch and put my legs up on the coffee table. "When are you going back to school?"
Lisa shrugged. "I don't know. Whenever they find breastfeeding acceptable in high schools."
"Oh."
"Awww," Lisa nudged my arm. "Do you miss me?"
"Of course I miss you. Don't get me wrong, Lane is great, but I miss my best friend."
"I miss you, too," Lisa said, sitting down next to me. "Okay. How about we get up and go into town."
"With CeCe?" I asked as I got up to get my shoes on.
"Sure. Why not?"
Lisa and I did our new, cool best friend handshake, got CeCe in her stroller, then went outside into the blinding sun.
When we got to Luke's, it was very busy and Luke seemed to be overwhelmed. Lorelai had told me that his uncle died and her was all stressed out, which seemed to be the problem here.
"Hey," Lorelai greeted as we walked in. "Can you help us?" My mother and sister were on the other side of the counter, bringing food to customers, while Luke was on the phone.
"Sure," I replied, going over to the counter as Lisa claimed the only empty spot on the other side of it.
"What's going on?" She asked.
"Luke's uncle died and he's calling family and stuff, because they're having the funeral in Stars Hollow," I explained, refilling Kirk's coffee.
"Wait, mine's a quarter caff," Kirk said as I began to pour the coffee.
"Huh?"
"3/4 decaf, 1/4 caffeinated."
"I really don't care, Kirk," I sighed. He resigned and I filled up his cup. "Hey, Luke?" I asked, turning to him.
"What's up, Kid?"
"Do you know where Jess is?"
"No idea. School?"
I scoffed. "Please. I'll check upstairs." I ran upstairs and pounded on the door.
"What the he—?" A voice came from the other side.
I grabbed the collar of Jess's shirt and pulled him downstairs. "Help. Now." He tried to go back upstairs, but I forced plates into his arms. "Table by the window. Go!"
The next day, I was serving coffee to Taylor, as he was mumbling on about his turnips.
"Turnips, turnips," he chanted.
"What about turnips?" I asked, coming over to his table.
"Turnips?"
"You said 'turnips', Taylor," I sighed.
"No, I didn't," he stated.
"I think you did."
Taylor shook his head. "Nope, but I've got turnips. Good ones, too. Definitely better than his." He turned back to the window. "Not as big as his, but who needs bloated turnips?"
