My thoughts had been fixated around Jess for the past few days.

After the party, Lisa, Rory, Lorelai, and I went to eat at Luke's, since we needed something that wasn't fancy little finger foods.

Jess was cleaning the counter dressed as Luke and we all had a good laugh about. Then he looked at me.

I had to admit it, I wasn't looking very ladylike, but he still looked at me like I was a princess and not a girl in a white gown with a napkin tucked into my top to prevent ketchup being spilt and definitely some on my mouth.

Now I was lying in bed, trying to get him dimly lit smile from that night out of my mind. I kept thinking back to what Lisa said, though, "I guess you have a type for the arrogant and rude."

"Lucille Gilmore?"

"Lucy!" Lisa shouted. I shook my head with a startle.

"What?" I asked, looking at Lisa.

"We're doing attendance," Mrs. Baker reminded.

"Oh, well, as you can see, I'm here."

Mrs. Baker did not that nearly as funny as I had thought it to be. But she ignored it and went back to attendance.

"Can't get a certain someone off your mind?"

I glared at Lisa next to me and kicked her seat and her stomach bumped against the table. "Sorry!"

"Lucy," she hissed back, "It's fine, I'm pregnant, not a porcelain doll!" Well, she was definitely cranky. I guess it was just the effect of carrying a human being around in your stomach for nine months.

"Yeah, Lucy, she's not a porcelain doll," said a voice that made me smile, even if I was seconds away from hitting him.

I turned around. "Shut up, Jess and pay attention."

"Hard to do when you two are in front of me gossiping about boys every day."

My cheeks turned red. I had been totally unaware that he was listening, not knowing that we were talking about him.

"Lisa, Lucy, Jess, please pay attention." I turned back around to face Mrs. Baker.

The school bell rang.

"Okay, your assignment is to finish pages 120-135 tonight," my English teacher concluded as students packed up their bags.

"15 pages?" I hissed.

"What, are you not smart enough for that?" Jess jeered in a very obnoxious way.

"No shit. If I was, I would be at Chilton with my Harvard born sister." It really sucked sharing most classes with him. Also seeing as I felt very self conscious with him near.

"Calm down, Lucy," Lisa cooed.

"You know, if you need help, we could do the work together," Jess suggested.

"Yeah right, you slacker. I'm probably going to end up giving you all of the answers," I crossed my arms.

I could see a quick flash of hurt in his eyes, but it was gone the very moment it appeared.

"Probably, but who knows? Maybe I'll end up helping you."

At this moment, I think Lisa felt something between us and her great plan was to leave alone with those hidden feelings.

"I'm gonna study with Lane. I don't if I can handle your competitive energy right now," she said so calmly, but I still knew what she was up to.

"But—wha—what," I stuttered as she left with Lane, leaving me here in the hallway with Jess.
