Here comes Max, there goes Lorelai (unedited)

All the tastes came rushing to me at once. The sweet, the fruity.

I closed my eyes and let the flavors sink in.

"Lucy?" Lorelai interrupted. "Hey wake up."

I opened my eyes and slowly nodded. "That is a good cake." I gestured to the chocolate strawberry cake I had just taken a bite out of.

"Lemme get a bite," Rory said.

I looked back at the seat where Lisa was sitting, eating a piece of carrot cake. She saw me staring and waved. I waved back.

The past couple of weeks had been stressful. Her due date was February 13th, 2002. It was pretty far away, but we've gotten mostly everything situated, including Richard and Emily pay for a small extension on the house.

We'd waited to start construction, because we didn't know if Lisa's parents would invite her back home. For now, she was just sleeping on a mattress in the living room.

"Wow, that is good," Rory said, he mouth full of cake. "I think this is the one."

"Okay, we can go back to the cakes later," I began, "but before I print out invitations, I need a quote."

I pulled at a piece of paper from my backpack. "Pick one."

Lorelai read them off and chose the one I put from Mussolini, just for fun. I knew she would've picked it.

"Ugh, I feel wrong eating free samples of cake, when Sookie is making us a free one," Rory complained.

"Rory, Rory. What defines 'right'? I think taking advantage of my marriage to eat free cake is right. But if it's wrong, then I don't want to be right."

"Omg! Look at this!" Lisa exclaimed, holding up a pink onesie.

"Cute," I remark. "Maybe wait 'till you know the gender of the baby to pick out clothes. I don't know if a little boy will want to be in a pink onesie with a little tulle skirt."

Lisa scoffed and returned the onesie to the pile. "When is my next appointment anyway?"

"In a couple weeks, I think." The last appointment we had was a few weeks ago. We heard a heartbeat and the baby looked healthy.

"I just want to know what it is."

"Well....it's a baby..."

Lisa threw a pillow at me and I laughed. A woman glared at us, seeing as we were causing such a scene.

"You'll probably know by the beginning of school, Lis. Don't worry about it too much."

"Yeah...I guess," my friend mumbled.

There was a moment of silence as I looked through the piles of clothes in front of me.

"Ugh, I don't know how to pick clothes," I whined. "I can barely pick my own, let alone for a baby."

"This is cute!" Lisa exclaimed, holding up a white onesie with the words:

I'M A STARS HOLLOW BABY

printed on it.

"Get it."

After we paid for some baby clothes, we walked out of the store. Some girls from school were walking bye and gave us a weird look and walked on, whispering.

I glanced at Lisa, who's cheeks were red.

"Hey," I put my arm are her shoulders. "Don't let them get to you."
