"You just ran away?" Rory asked. I blushed.

"Yes."

"You didn't say anything? When he clearly likes you?"

"Yes."

"And you didn't even acknowledge him?"

Yes."

"Well, you definitely made an impression!" Rory said, taking a bite of a muffin.

"Mhm," I replied, looking as kids walked through the doors at school. "Speaking of which, I should probably get going to school."

"Okay." Rory finished off her muffin and we waved goodbye to Luke.

At school, I said bye to Rory and took a deep breath. It wasn't a big deal, right? I mean, it's not like I said something embarrassing. Except nothing at all. I guess that was embarrassing.

While I was fretting, Lisa came up behind me.

"Hello!" She said. I turned around.

"Hi."

"Why so sad?" She asked.

"Okay, don't tell anyone, but I ran into that boy that was staring at me my first day. I kind of ran away..." I trailed off.

"Lucy!"

"Say it a little louder, why don't you?" I mumbled. Lisa smiled.

"Do you like him?" She asked silently as we walked to homeroom.

I shrugged. I didn't know him or anything about him. His name was Leo, he was in my grade. Nothing else. But he seemed nice. I had never liked anyone. No one had ever liked me. I spent my life as an outcast in society. Now that I had a friend and a crush, I was feeling normal. I felt complete.

"Maybe," I finally said. Who knew a little white lie could be so wrong?

                                                                                ...

All throughout the school day, I kept an eye on Leo. And the more I saw him, the more I loved him. I had never felt like this before. I didn't know how I was supposed to feel.

"Oh my god, girl. You're really crushing!" Lisa said at the end of the day, as I watched Leo get on the bus with his friends. "In a creepy way," she added.

I tucked a piece of hair behind my ear and shrugged. "I don't know."

"Okay, stop acting like a shy anime girl! Seriously, Lucy!" I laughed as Lisa looked at me, annoyed.

I saw Rory and Dean by a tree.

"Bye, Lisa!" I waved and ran over to the tree.

"Bye, Little Miss Anime Girl!" Lisa yelled behind me

"Can I interrupt?" I asked with arms crossed. Rory managed to detach her lips from Dean's and turned to me, blushing.

"Um, bye Dean," Rory said as I dragged her away.

"What was that?" I gasped. She crossed her arms.

"You can't tell Mom, please? I don't want her to know yet. She'll think he's not good enough for me or something like that—you know her." I nodded in agreement. Mom thought that we were too young for anything. I had only been living in Stars Hollow for a short time and I had learned all about Mom's habits and personality traits already.

"Fine. Just stop making it so hard for me to not tell her. Be a little more out of sight, please?" I whined and she thanked me.

                                                                              ...

"Do you guys know it's your birthdays in a week?" Lorelai asked as we sat in the living room, eating pizza.

I had not known, actually. I had totally forgotten about that. Despite birthdays being a big thing in the Gilmore household, Emily and Richard tended to invite their fancy D.A.R/work friends. Which made sense, I guess, see as I didn't have any friends to invite.

"Are you going to have a big party for us?" Rory asked, rolling her eyes.

"Actually, no," Lorelai said. "This year, all you two are getting is a cake I'm going to find in a dumpster." She stood up and walked to the kitchen.

I started to laugh, but looked to Rory.

"You're kidding, right?" I asked.

"You'll just have to wait to find out!"

"We're having a party....right?" Rory continued to ask. At this point, Lorelai was ignoring us.

I turned to Rory and smiled. I couldn't help it

                                                                                         ...

"Ugh! I have a quiz in math today!" Rory said the next morning, over a cup of coffee. She was moments away from tearing her hair out.

"I have Gym today," I said, putting on my jacket.

"You win," Rory replied.

"I know." I gave a flirtatious hair flip. "I always do."

Outside of Luke's, Lisa was waiting for me with a worried face. I hopped down the steps and was hit with cold air. Winter was coming. And quick. It was only October second and it felt like the middle of December.

"You are not cold," Lisa said, crossing her arms. She was wearing a t shirt and skirt.

"You're not?" I exclaimed.

"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" She whined looking down at her bear legs.

I shook my head. "Nothing...you do you."

I slung my bag over my shoulder and we walked to school.

"So my birthday is next Friday. I don't know if there will be a party or not, but you can sleep over."

Lisa nodded. "Sure! What time?" I shrugged.

"We don't need to figure that out now. My mom said there won't a party for us....but I know there will!" I ran off, skipping like a little girl as Lisa followed me.
