THERE WAS ONLY ONE HUMAN IN THE ENTIRE MUTANT SCHOOL. And that was Madeline.
She had met Charles when Raven got impaled by Jean Grey. They had all thought Raven would be gone in seconds but with a helpful machine a bystander, Madeline, had on her, she had saved Raven's life.
It was her own invention, nanotechnology used to heal her wounds and as soon as charles watched his friend live before his eyes he knew Madeline was someone he needed on sight.
She was smarter than he could've ever predicted and even being inside her mind was like a confusing, intelligent mess of information he found all to fascinating.
And Erik thought she was just as amazing.
He would sometimes make an excuse to pass or enter her lab and without even realising it he would be staring for 5, 10 minutes before Charles caught on and entered his friends mind, telling him to stop being a creep.
He would roll his eyes when Charles told hin to just talk to her but it wasn't that easy.
He tried, of course.
He would seek her out in a room, go up to her as she was making her drinks and try to strike up a conversation, but whenever he did she would freeze.
Erik would watch as she stuttered and got caught on her words before ultimately deciding to just walk away with her head down.
He knew she was scared of him. It made his chest ache at the thought because usually he doesn't mind the fact he was feared by others, in fact he loved it. But when Madeline avoids him all the time, all he can wish for is for her to not fear him.
He came to the conclusion she must be scared of all mutants.
But despite that revelation he still couldn't help but seek her out.
Erik had just come out from meeting Charles for a game of chess but had left when Charles got busy with information for the X-men.
It was when he was walking through the halls when he had saw Madeline.
Her head was down as she walked, curly hair falling down the sides of her face as she was deep into the chemistry book she was reading, her hands moving up to her face as her glasses started go slide down her nose.
His lip curled up at the sight of her and before he knew it, his feet were taking him to her and he stopped in front of where she was going.
Her steps were small but once a shadow casted over her, she stopped and her eyes slowly trailed up Erik's body till her green eyes finally rested upon his face.
