"Evelyn, can you please give me that muffin over there," Zoe said, pointing to the blueberry muffin that the customer wanted.
Evelyn grabbed the muffin and handed it quickly to Zoe. "Thanks." Zoe gave the pastry to the middle aged lady, making sure to smile and be as amiable as possible.
"Thank you so much, sweetie," the lady said before walking over to an empty table to enjoy her coffee and little treat.
Zoe smiled again. Authentically. She loved it when nice people like that came into her coffee shop, because it made her feel like what she did actually mattered to someone and that she was bringing at least some happiness to a person's world.
While she was still in the middle of her happiness, a phone call came to their business phone. Zoe quickly picked it up and answered. "Rrinkers coffee, how may I help you?"
"Hi ma'am, my name is Bill. I am calling from the IRS regarding the taxes that you have to pay-."
Taking a deep breath, Zoe immediately cut him off. "Listen here Bill, you can shove the taxes up your ass." With that being said, she slammed her finger on the hanging up button, feeling tired and annoyed of all the IRS calls that she had been getting. That was the third one today, and it was only 1:00pm.
I'm going to beat up the next person who calls me!
The sound of the door opening caused her to look up. It was a young male that walked in; he was wearing sweats and a sweater and looked like he was scared while walking up to the counter. "Hello...umm...I am looking for the owner." He looked around and noticed how cozy the coffee shop was. It was mainly wooden and glass, with a large bookshelf in the corner, holding an array of hardcovers. It was well lit but not too bright and the aroma was so heavenly.
"Hi," Zoe replied cheerfully, "I'm the owner, Zoe."
I thought the owner was old. San thought. He was a little nervous due to the fact that the owner in front of him was the most attractive woman he had seen in a while. She had medium length brown hair that was curled softly and framing her face. She had piercing light brown eyes that even though she wasn't his type, she was still a very attractive woman. And she didn't even have makeup on; she looked natural. "H-hi...my name is San, is it okay if we go somewhere private to talk? It is a very urgent matter." He held up his badge so only she could see it.
"Umm...sure." Zoe whispered a quick 'I'll be back' to Evelyn before leading the way to the small storage/break room. "Right this way." I wish I had my taser with me. She thought but quickly decided against it because she felt in her bones that San looked like a good person and wouldn't do anything to harm her. That was one of her superpowers: knowing who had a good heart and who didn't based on one look at them. She'd been wrong before but not too wrong. Plus, he had a badge.
San nodded and followed Zoe. When they got into the break room, San looked around and did a sweep of the place.
"What are you doing?" Zoe exclaimed.
"Just making sure this place isn't bugged."
"Why would it be bugged?"
"It's not."
"Of course it's not!"
I can't believe that Valencia actually picked my idea. San thought as he pulled out his badge fully from his coat pocket. "My name is San. I am a secret agent with the FBI, I am here to talk to you-."
"Get out!"
"Excuse me?"
"I said get out! And don't come back!"
