What do I wear? What do I wear? What do I wear?"

The question that Zoe kept replaying out loud. She had been invited to her first gala. A gala to remember Janice. Lucas had planned the entire thing, mainly as a way to remember his mother, but also as a way to auction off her art and donate the money to women who wanted to become attorneys. Janice was always donating to schools so he thought this was the perfect idea to remember her by.

Zoe was shocked that he had invited her as his date. It was weird for her to have such a rich man want to be around a common girl like her. It was funny how two people could be so different yet so similar. Their differences complemented each other. It was a fall themed gala. To think that a year had passed by since she met Lucas was insane.

Lucas had offered to pay for her dress for the gala due to it being a high end event, but Zoe being the way that she is, had refused his offer. She didn't want him to think that she was using him. So what she did was pay for a bunch of dresses, planned to wear one, and then return all of them. It was fun for her to wear expensive dresses and then return them. So far, she hadn't been caught.

Throwing the 3rd dress on the floor, she quickly moved on to the next one. "Ugh this is too pink!" She threw it on the floor, not even bothering to try it on. "Please be cute."

The next dress was a deep mauve color. It was one shoulder and had some ruffles on the side. The fit was very tight, showing her every curve, and the length stopped right at her ankles making the perfect dress to walk comfortably and not worry about it getting caught under the heels. She looked at herself in the mirror and was elated at what she saw.

Should I try on the other dresses?

She looked at her phone and saw that it was ten minutes before Lucas came to pick her up. No. That was her final answer. She was going to use the last ten minutes of getting ready to put on the most amazing perfume she had and touch up her hair and makeup. After five minutes, she was done.

Looking in the mirror, she kind of did not recognize what she saw. She rarely did her makeup but today it was all done. She rarely wore dresses but today she was wearing a really nice one. She rarely wore anything other than sneakers but today she had beautiful heels on.

It felt a little strange to be in these clothes. She always thought of herself as an average girl and never someone who would get invited to a gala with a bunch of millionaires. No matter how many people told her she looked beautiful, she still knew she would walk in tonight comparing herself and feeling less than all the other women in the gala. Her insecurities would be the death of her. She always wondered whether it was a girl thing to always feel ugly when there was nothing but beauty about her.

Her phone ringing snapped her out of her metaphysical thoughts about the female gender and back into reality. Lucas. Shit!

Quickly, she looked in the mirror, smacked her lips together to distribute her natural lipstick and head down the stairs. Thankfully, she had a back door she could walk out of without seeing anyone in the coffee shop. She would feel so awkward seeing people when she looked so fancy. Probably because she didn't like the way they stared at her. All she had to do was put on a little makeup and suddenly everyone would stare and try to talk to her. The attention that she got from wearing makeup was why she never did it.

She grabbed her keys, walked out the door, and made sure to set the alarm behind her. The first thing she saw when she walked out was Lucas leaning on his black sports car. Her breath almost stopped midway to her lungs. He looked so handsome that she swore he was not real.

"H-Hi." Of course you stutter you idiot.

"Hi back. You look beautiful."

He couldn't tell but she turned as red as a tomato underneath all that foundation. Lucas opened the door, not taking his eyes off of her. He couldn't even if he wanted to.
