It was another day. Another day that Lucas was still peacefully sleeping. Another day that Zoe didn't get to hear his voice.
For the past three weeks that he has been in his "coma," she had developed a routine of being with him. It didn't feel like three weeks but the calendar begs to differ. Every morning, she would get ready for her day in Lucas's penthouse, head to work, and then head back to the penthouse. It was just like her old routine when she had FBI agents living in her loft. She was getting used to the routine. She loved sleeping in the same penthouse as Lucas every night. It was the best.
Everyday, she would look forward to going home again so she could see him. And everyday, she would hope that he had woken up. One day. She could only hope.
Today was a day like no other. She got ready for work and headed on her way. I was starting to get warm so she didn't have many layers on.When she told Evelyn about what had happened, Evelyn was beyond worried and shocked, just like a mother figure would be. She insisted on doing all the work but Zoe did not allow it. What else am I gonna do if I don't help out at the coffee shop, is what she would tell herself.
The day, like the ones before it, dragged. It dragged because she wanted it to fly by. The irony of time. How funny that it teases us and speeds up when we want it to slow down and slows down when we want it to go away. But no matter how fast or slow, time marched on and soon, Zoe found herself cleaning up the coffee shop, balancing the books, and getting ready for the next day.
Insteading of heading upstairs when she was done, she walked outside, locked the shop up and made her walk to the hotel. It was a beautiful night. Clear. The breeze was so soothing, she could have walked for hours. But sadly, she reached the tall hotel way too soon.
Walking through those same doors as before, she greeted the security guard and headed quickly to Lucas' penthouse. Strange, she thought as she walked through the front door. All the lights were on and she could hear noise that she hadn't heard before.
She quickly made her way to Lucas' room only to see the most shocking things. Something she was not expecting at all. There were doctors all around Lucas' bed. Her eyes also spotted Logan, Rosalee, Tyler, and Adana in the room. But the thing that shocked her most was when she walked further in the room and could see that Lucas was the one talking and laughing.
"Lucas," she whispered, dropping her purse on the floor.
"Zoe," he replied.
She didn't know what to do. They were both kind of stuck in the moment.
They continued to stare at each other before Logan broke the silence. "Lucas woke up about a few hours ago, all on his own."
"Oh my God," is all that Zoe could muster up to say. Her and Lucas were still looking at each other. "I'm so glad you're awake."
"He's gonna be up and about in no time," the doctor said before smiling and adding, "I'm gonna head out for the night, call me if you need anything."
Logan nodded and shook his hand.
"Zoe, it's so good to see you."
"Ye-yeah, me too." Why was she being so awkward all of a sudden?
The others could sense the tension in the room. That is why Tyler opened his mouth. "Lucas, bro, we're all stoked that you're finally ok. You don't know how stressed we were about you. Me and Adana are gonna head out, but we will swing by tomorrow and I'll bring you some of the new roasts I've been thinking of for you."
"Ok, Tyler, whatever," Lucas laughed, softly.
"Yeah, Rosalee and I are gonna head out too but we'll be here tomorrow with Tyler and Adana. I know you miss me too much if you don't see me everyday."
