Namjoon sat in the prison, his hands still cuffed behind him. He was lost in his thoughts zoning out. He sat alone on the hard bench, his mind spinning. How did this happen? He tried to remember what had gone down, but his thoughts were a blur. Bits and pieces flashed through his mind—Joo-young talking him into drinks, the loud bar, laughter... and then nothing. He squeezed his eyes shut. Why can’t I remember? And why does everyone think I did this? A deep feeling of dread filled his chest.
After a while, he heard footsteps. The cell door opened, and Jin walked in. His face looked tight, like he was holding something back.
“Hyung…” Namjoon’s voice was barely a whisper.
Jin looked at him carefully, searching his face. “Namjoon, please… tell me the truth. Did you do it?”
Namjoon’s heart dropped at Jin’s words. “Hyung, I swear I didn’t do anything. I don’t remember much from last night, but I know I didn’t hurt Minji.” His voice was pleading, desperate for his brother to believe him.
Jin sighed, glancing down, then back up at him. “Yoongi-hyung is outside, talking to a lawyer. We’re all trying to help you, Joon… but you were the last person with her. It just… it doesn’t look good.”
Namjoon’s throat tightened. “Please, Hyung, believe me. I wouldn’t do this.”
Jin nodded slowly, though his expression didn’t fully ease. There was still a shadow of doubt in his eyes, a small hesitation.
“I want to believe you, Joon… I really do. But this is serious,” he said softly.
Namjoon felt his heart sink even further as Jin gave his shoulder a gentle pat before leaving the cell, leaving him once again alone, with nothing but silence and his own thoughts.
Jin came back after a few minutes, this time looking more troubled than before. He took a deep breath, staring at Namjoon, and then asked, “Namjoon… are you absolutely sure? If there’s anything you’re hiding, now’s the time to say it.”
Namjoon’s face twisted in frustration. “Hyung, I already told you! I don’t remember everything, but I know I didn’t hurt Minji. Why do you keep asking me that?”
Jin held his gaze, unflinching. “Because I need to hear it from you, Namjoon. Do you realize how this looks? If there’s anything you’re not telling us, it’s better to just come clean now. We are your family Joon!!”
Namjoon clenched his fists behind his back, his patience snapping. “Hyung, I’m telling you the truth! How many times do I have to say it for you to believe me?” His voice grew louder, raw with desperation. “Do you really think I’m capable of killing some innocent?”
Before Jin could respond, a police officer walked in, his eyes cold and unforgiving as he looked at Namjoon. “Kim Namjoon, I’d keep that temper in check if I were you,” he said, voice low but full of threat. “We’ve seen enough angry men like you who claim innocence. But usually… they’re the ones who end up guilty.”
Namjoon’s glare shifted to the officer. “You don’t know anything about me.”
The officer smirked. “I know enough. You were the last person with her, and now she’s gone. And your little memory gap isn’t exactly helping your case, is it?”
Namjoon was seething now, his frustration bubbling over. "How can you all stand here, doubting me, when I’m saying over and over I didn’t do this!" His voice echoed in the cell, a mix of anger and desperation.
Jin held up his hands, trying to calm him. "Namjoon, I’m not saying I don’t believe you. But the police… they’re saying you were the last one with her. You can't even remember the full night—don’t you understand how that looks?" His voice softened. "Please, Joon. Just tell me everything."
Namjoon’s expression twisted, feeling betrayed by the doubt in Jin’s eyes. "Hyung, I already told you everything I know! You think I’d ever hurt someone like this?" His voice broke, almost cracking with the weight of it.
Just then, the officer stepped forward, a menacing glint in his eye. "Getting worked up now, are we, Kim?" He crossed his arms, his tone taunting. "I’ve seen it all before. The ones who can’t remember, the ones who swear they didn’t do it—they’re usually hiding the worst secrets."
Namjoon glared at him, his jaw clenching. "You don’t get it. I didn’t do anything."
The officer chuckled, a dark sound that made Namjoon’s skin crawl. "Oh, I get it. You’re just another spoiled guy who thinks he’s untouchable." He leaned in closer, voice barely above a whisper. "But remember Kim, this is not Korea. No one cares if you are famous there. We’ll get the truth out of you, one way or another."
Namjoon’s face twisted in anger, and he took a step toward the officer, only to be stopped by the bars.
"Joon, stop," Jin urged, his voice low but pleading. "Please, don’t make this worse."
Namjoon looked away, breathing heavily, the weight of it all pressing down on him. The officer smirked, clearly satisfied with the reaction. "You keep thinking about that ‘truth’ of yours, Mr. Kim," he sneered before turning and walking away, leaving Namjoon staring at the cold walls, his own brother still unsure of what to believe.
"Joon-," Jin started but immediately stopped when Namjoon who turned and walked back to the bench ignoring Jin.
"Joon, atleast listen to Hyung," Jin pleaded but Namjoon refused to even look at him.
