Y/n had done as she said and explained the three friends sudden absence from class to Professor Lupin. Before she could even get the words out he said he understood and once again she saw that flicker of familiarity and deja vu in his eyes. Sometimes she could've sworn she saw it every time he looked at her, Dina, Harry, Hermione, or the twins.

It was like he had seen it all before.

Like when he looked at them he was really seeing someone else.

Y/n didn't press the subject. It was really none of her business no matter how dreadfully curious every new interaction with the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher made her. She couldn't put her finger on what it was, but he had a swirling darkness lurking underneath the surface. Not the vindictive kind of darkness, but the kind of darkness that said he had seen something... he had lived through something that couldn't be talked about.

Her thoughts strayed to the odd Professor again after lunch as she stalked towards the edge of the forest. She couldn't shake the feeling that she knew him, but she pushed it out of her mind as she caught sight of fuzzy black fur.

"Hi Starry!" Y/n greeted the black dog warmly with a bright smile whose tail started wagging excitedly in an almost frantic manner in response.

Y/n Granger could still remember how the nickname had come about— The first few days that Y/n met the mysterious black dog to feed it, give it water, and clean it she realized she should probably give it a name, but she didn't know what. She had suggested a few: buddy, snoopy (a personal favorite of hers), and chip after the dark almost chocolate colored fur he had.

But he had rejected all of them. He'd whine and tilt his head with what almost looked like a pout on his snout in a clear way that told Y/n no. It wasn't until Y/n was petting him and she saw a small 'S' groomed into his fur that she hadn't noticed until then. She asked the dog that seemed to understand words if their name started with an S and the dog's tail had started to wag.

Y/n had looked into the dog's silver grey eyes at that moment and was stunned by the sudden striking resemblance they had to stars. It was like the constellations that twinkled at night had been grabbed from the midnight sky and placed into this dog's eyes. The name to call him had never been more clear.

—back to present day, Y/n nearly fell backwards from the force at which the dog jumped on her to greet her. His tail was wagging like mad as he gently licked her cheek while she laughed slightly in amusement.

"I never thought I'd be jealous of a dog." A honey smooth voice mused jokingly with a quiet chuckle from behind Y/n.

Without turning, Y/n knew who it was and the small smirk he no doubt wore on his face and small, pretty pink lips.

"Georgie, meet Starry." Y/n spoke with a soft laugh and a renewed breath of air as the dog's paws returned to the ground and allowed her lungs to expand fully again.

The dog's eyes seemed to flit between the tall redheaded twin and Y/n Granger curiously as if it was trying to understand how they knew each other and what they meant to each other. His head was tilted slightly as if he was trying to decide whether he liked the new person or not.

"Where in Godric's name did you find this little cutie?" George asked as he bent down to scratch the area of fur just between their ears which perked up ever so slightly at the compliment.

It seemed that with these words the dog landed on liking the redhead as its tail began to wag ever so slightly again.

"They were just out here by the forest one day. I've been coming here to make sure they get enough food and water." She answered simply with a small smile as she held out the small portion of lunch food she had snuck out with her as she exited the great hall minutes ago.
