Chapter 69: Old Dreams

Before dinner, Song Yimo followed a nurse to draw two tubes of blood.

Knowing she would suffer once she received the mobilization agent, she barely had much efficiency while doing homework that evening, working continuously until eleven o'clock.

If Zhai Muyang hadn't urged her, she would have wanted to continue.

She needed to finish all her homework during this time so she could use the ten days of the lunar new year break to write a novel.

Feeling that Yimo was a grown girl now, Zhai Muyang and Miao Jun both decided to sleep in the living room together, with adjoining doors open so they could hear if anything happened.

It's not clear if it was the emotions left over from a past life playing tricks, but Song Yimo didn't sleep soundly that night.

She dreamt of fragments from the days of bone marrow extraction.

The last time she wasn't staying in the hospital, Song Yi had booked a room for her at a nearby hotel.

After receiving the mobilization agent, her body was in pain everywhere, but she had to travel between two places alone, which was difficult even though they were close.

She had to pour water for herself, buy food for herself, with no one caring for her.

She was so naive that she didn't know she could call room service, and Song Yi never reminded her.

After enduring this for three days, she lay in the hospital bed while her blood was drawn to separate stem cells. Despite the discomfort, she didn't make a sound and endured it alone.

Song Yi only cared about her own concerns; it was only at that time that Song Yimo completely dispelled her illusions about her mother.

Song Yimo opened her eyes, tears in the corners.

She didn't long for the motherly love she never received, but she felt sorry for the version of herself who bravely endured it.

That was the real sixteen-year-old her, young, anxious, and stubbornly proud, unwilling to let Song Yi look down on her even for a moment.

Song Yimo, you are truly brave.

Sitting up and looking out of the window just as daylight broke, Song Yimo couldn't fall back asleep.

Zhai Muyang always woke up early. He planned to wash his face and then go buy breakfast, but when he reached the door of the ward, his steps halted, then quickened as he went inside.

Song Yimo exuded a sense of loneliness all over her...

"Have you been awake for a while? Can't sleep?"

Song Yimo turned her head, with a smile on her face, "I woke up not long ago. The smell of disinfectant in the hospital is unpleasant."

Zhai Muyang sat at the edge of the bed, and as he spoke, one of his hands quietly slipped under the covers, "Then we won't stay here anymore. I'll go book two rooms at the hotel."

The sheets were cool, and suddenly Zhai Muyang felt heartache, but he couldn't show it. This child, who never wanted to show her weaknesses, was very proud.

"No, it's too much trouble coming and going. My body might react to the mobilization agent, so the hospital is more convenient."

Zhai Muyang thought about it and didn't insist, "What do you want to eat for breakfast?"

Song Yimo propped her cheek and thought for a moment without speaking.

Zhai Muyang stroked her hair gently, "Take your time thinking. I'll go wash up."
