Chapter 28

The Monday morning air in Becky's office was heavy with stress, caffeine, and a faint tension no one wanted to name. 

Orm sat slouched on the couch, her arms crossed as if she could physically hold herself together. From everything has been happening, Ken isn't even picking her calls..

Becky was perched on her desk, scribbling down half-baked solutions on a notepad, while Prig sat cross-legged on the floor, tossing in unhelpful quips that only made Orm groan louder.

"Lucas isn't answering his calls? Like, he straight-up ghosted you?" Becky asked, chewing the cap of her pen.

"For the millionth time, yes!" Orm snapped, dragging her hands down her face. "I think the little shit blocked me. It's been two freaking days, Becky! Two ! He's either dead or he blocked me, and frankly, at this point, I'd prefer the first option, because no one dares to ignore me."

"Well, what about a loan from the bank?" Becky offered, scribbling it down like it was a genius revelation.

Prig let out a dramatic scoff. "Oh yeah, let's just stroll into the bank and say, 'Hey, can I have 2.5 million dollars by Saturday? ' They'll totally just hand it over. Genius, Becky."

"Shut up, Prig," Becky snapped, rolling her eyes and crossing that off too. "At least I'm trying to think of something."

Orm groaned again, leaning back in her chair. "How about just telling my mom the truth. Maybe she's got some secret savings fund or something, I don't know. I'm desperate here. But even that feels like a death sentence."

Prig scoffed, setting her coffee down. "You know she'll lose her mind, right? Mama Koy's whole personality is built around bragging about her perfect son studying abroad. You think she's ready to hear what her golden boy's been up to? Hell no."

Becky nodded solemnly. "She's gonna spiral, Orm. And then we'll all have to deal with her wrath. I'm with Prig on this one—it's a bad idea."

"So, what? I'm just supposed to pull 2.5 million out of thin air?" Orm growled, kicking the leg of the coffee table. "Even marrying some rich guy on short notice isn't even possible"
