Chapter 5 - Alex

RJ glared at me from the sofa and I wanted to laugh. He looked like a bruised pouting puppy, but still cute.

"I told you before, my so-called friends are not actual friends. They only want to be around me because of my family's connections and money. I hated them, dad wanted me to be friends with them because of what they could do for me in the future. They were all fake and I hated it."

"I tried to pretend but they were suffocating. They always wanted to go to some party, or some fancy restaurant. They would laugh really loud and put people down that weren't like them. They weren't quiet about it either."

I sat on the spot next to him and sighed.

"But what if you find friends you want to hang out with? I won't want to do that," I told him.

"And who said I would?" he smiled.

Slowly, he took my hand and his big brown eyes stared up at me.

"I'd much rather hang out at the bar with you, or even just sit at home like this with you. I don't want to go to parties or fancy restaurants. My parents would drag me to those places. Not for family stuff but they would say for appearance, they would try to set me up with a girl from a powerful wealthy family. I'm actually happier now than I've ever been working at the bar ... with you."

I stared at our hands and then back at him. His eyes beamed up at me and I couldn't help but smile and ruffle his hair. He playfully pushed my hand away but then laid his head on my shoulder and sighed.

"So will you tell me why you lied and what you were doing in that bar?" I asked.

RJ sighed again but this one didn't sound happy or content. Instead, he sounded resigned.

"I wanted to meet someone and try to get over you," he started.

"What?"

"Yeah, after that woman flirted with you and you said you had to play along with what I did. I realised that you and I would never be what I wanted. So, it was time to move on, so I moved out and decided to find someone else."

"That's why you moved out suddenly, but why that guy?"

"He was the first to come up to me and he seemed nice at first. When he suggested going somewhere else I agreed thinking he meant a restaurant or something but when he led me outside into the back alley and started kissing me it felt wrong. I tried to push him off but he was stronger than me. I was stupid."

I gave his head a light flick and chuckled as he pouted whilst rubbing the spot I'd flicked.

"I'm sorry," I said with a sigh. "I was the stupid one, if I hadn't pushed you away you'd never have gotten hurt."

"No! ... If that guy hadn't been a prick I wouldn't have gotten hurt. Yes, I was trying to get over you but it wasn't your fault I was there."

He gripped my face and looked so determined that I couldn't help but smile. I leaned in and pecked his lips. His eyes went wide and my smile grew.

RJ touched his lips and then eyed mine as if he couldn't quite believe what I'd done. I chuckled before standing up and headed into the kitchen.

"Alex!" he called out after me.

I shook my head and set about making him something to eat. He hadn't eaten properly in the hospital and I had to take care of my guy.

"I thought you said I was too young for you?"

"I never actually said you were too young," I reminded him.

He looked like he was about to argue but then stopped as realisation flitted across his face.
