Kian's POV
I sat on my knees, looking at nothing but the floor. I didn't know how, in one day, all this happened. My parents were dead. I should feel sad. I should cry. But there were no emotions, just numbness. They tried to harm Crystal. They tried to kill her, and I have to protect her. I will protect her was the only thought running through my mind.
Slowly getting up from the floor, I walked near Crystal, who was fainted on the floor. Sitting near her again, I looked at her beautiful face, even when it was covered in that bastard's blood.
She is my everything now—only her. I didn't look, not even once, at anyone—not my mom, not my dad. How could I, when they tried to harm my baby? Don't they know how my love is? How could they when even Crystal didn't know?
My birdy didn't know how much I love her, how desperate I was from the first moment after coming back. No one could tell, because no one knew what she meant to me. No one saw my love—not her, not you, no one.
My obsession is my love. My addiction is my love. My madness is my love. My birdy is my love.
Yes, I am crazy. Crazy for her. But after today, I won't let anyone harm her. I will protect her.
...
I took out my phone from my pocket, pressed the contact named Nevan, and called him.
"Nevan," I said in a blank tone.
"Come here."In a few minutes, he was there, wearing a white coat, looking at everything with wide eyes. He was shocked and scared—why wouldn't he be? He was like a normal person, not crazy like me, a psychiatrsit.
I explained everything to him, and he listened when no one did.
He called my people to clean up the mess and ordered my men to handle the news as well.
One hour passed. I was sitting on a chair, looking at Crystal, who was still sleeping, looking so innocent. I tried to wash the bloodstains from her face, but in fear of disturbing her peaceful sleep, I didn't.
Nevan was on the phone with someone when suddenly Crystal opened her eyes in shock, shouting for help. I didn't know what to do, so I hugged her tightly, whispering nothing but sweet words. But Crystal kept crying, trying to push me away again and again.
When she stopped, I pulled away from the hug, and she suddenly pushed me. I lost my balance and fell on the floor with a hard thud, groaning in pain because of the wounds I had gotten earlier.
"YOU KILLED THEM!" she shouted, her eyes showing nothing but hatred. I forgot every physical pain after feeling the most painful ache in my heart. Slowly, I tried to stand up.
She came running toward me, slapping me hard, and I let her. My eyes kept tearing up with each slap.
"I HATE YOU! I FUCKING HATE YOU! YOU ARE A MONSTER!" she kept shouting, crying. Her tears hurt me more, and I whispered, "Sorry..."
She stopped, taking steps back. I tried to touch her, but she jerked my hand away like I was something disgusting. She kept moving back.
"You are a monster, Kian. A monster! FUCKING LEAVE ME! LET ME GO! LET ME BE FREE FROM YOU! Monsters like you can't love. You are a murderer who only knows how to kill. You killed my uncle, your own mother and father too. YOU ARE HEARTLESS, KIAN! YOU ARE HEARTLESS!" she shouted angrily.
I cried, wanting to explain, but she wasn't ready to listen. Nevan came running after hearing her shouts and tried to explain.
"Look, Crystal, you're imagining the wrong things. Kian saved—"
He was cut off by Crystal's loud cry. "FUCKING LEAVE ME!"
She shouted again, and I ran to hold her, but she kept pushing me away with all her strength.
I went to my knees, crying, trying to hold her hand.
"I... ca...n't. I l...ove you. I ca...n't. I will di...e," I begged again and again, crying. But she didn't listen, looking at me with the same hateful, disgusted gaze.
"MONSTERS LIKE YOU DON'T DESERVE LOVE, KIAN!" Crystal shouted, running away, pushing Nevan aside.
I stood on my feet, running after her. She ran downstairs, opened the door, and ran outside. I heard Nevan curse from behind.
"Fuck! The guards aren't there."
I increased my speed, running behind her bare feet, my eyes fixed on them. My mind was filled with nothing but concern—what if she hurt herself?
I caught up to her near the entrance. She was trying to climb the metal door when I grabbed her by the waist, pulling her close to my chest. She kept thrashing, throwing her arms. I held her in a bridal hold and started walking back, not caring about how she was biting my arm, how her warm tears were soaking my shirt.
"What if you got hurt, huh?" I said, looking ahead.
"Don't you know I have no one besides you, birdy?"
She paused for a second before biting me in a new spot. I smiled through my teary eyes, my head throbbing in pain.
"I love you, Crystal. I do. I can't explain how much, but can't you understand without words?" I said, finally making her sit on the sofa.
I was about to get up when another slap landed on my cheek. I just stared into her hate-filled eyes with my teary ones for a few seconds.
"You can't leave me, Crystal," I said, turning to pick a cloth to wipe her dirty feet.
"Then let me kill myself, Kian."
I heard those words and turned my head quickly toward her. I saw Crystal picking up a knife and placing it near her wrist. Fear crawled into my body—the fear of losing her.
"D...on't. Ple...ase. I will... die..." I said, looking at her. My heart already felt like it was dying. My heartbeat quickened, faster and faster.
"THEN DIE, BECAUSE YOU DON'T DESERVE TO LIVE, KIAN!" she said, and was about to cut her wrist when Nevan came from behind and injected something into her neck. She fainted.
"WHAT DID YOU DO? CRYSTAL! CRYSTAL!" I shouted, picking her up in my arms, holding her tightly. Nevan looked at my desperate state.
"Kian, let her go," Nevan said suddenly.
I looked at him angrily.
"I CAN'T! OKAY? I CAN'T! I AM FUCKING SCARED OF BEING ALONE! IN A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE, I'VE ALWAYS FELT ALONE! THEN SHE CAME—MY ONLY COMPANY, MY ONLY WIFE, MY ONLY LOVE, MY CRYSTAL! I CAN'T LET HER GO! I AM SCARED, NEVAN, FUCKING SCARED THAT SHE WILL LEAVE ME. SHE WILL LEAVE ME!"
I kept shouting and mumbling. My body started trembling in fear. My eyes let out warm tears. My voice kept growing weaker and weaker.
"Kian... love doesn't work like this."
"I know it doesn't, but I also don't know how it does..."
