We both walked down the stairs together, Kian's hand holding mine. Downstairs, Mr. and Mrs. Well were looking at us with a smile. There were also some people I didn't recognize, but they all looked wealthy.
Once we reached them, Mrs. Well said, "Didn't I say you look perfect together?" As she spoke, I glanced up at Kian, taking in his appearance. He looked handsome in a black suit, a shiny black shirt paired with matching pants, and a dark red tie hanging around his neck. His outfit complemented mine perfectly.
When my eyes met his face, he was already staring at me.
"Let's start..." Mr. Well spoke, breaking our eye contact. Kian's blank gaze turned mischievous, and a smirk appeared on his lips. I quickly darted my gaze to the floor and quietly followed them.
We reached the stage, and Mr. Well took the microphone in his hand.
"May I have your attention, ladies and gentlemen?" he said, his eyes scanning the crowd. "Today we have gathered for my son's engagement to this beautiful young lady..." he continued, announcing happily.
"Isn't she beautiful?" he asked with a laugh. The crowd didn't respond immediately, but then a loud voice echoed.
"SHE IS!" A man's voice rang out, hitting my ears. I quickly tightened my grip on my dress.
"AHHHH..."
A painful yet familiar voice shouted in pain along with a gunshot. I quickly looked up to see people scrambling away from the injured man's body. My eyes widened in horror. What was even happening?
"I KNOW MY SOON-TO-BE WIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I HATE? WHEN SOMEONE LAYS THEIR EYES ON HER..."
Kian's voice boomed, and I trembled in fear. My arm started twisting and turning to escape his hold, but his grip only tightened. He twisted my arm painfully behind my waist, and a whimper escaped my mouth.
"It's just for show, birdy..." he said, and I let out a loud cry. How could someone kill just for show?
"You're cruel," I cried.
"Yes, I am. Now don't be like this, birdy, or it's going to be bad for them," he said in his deep voice, pointing in a direction. I followed his gaze and saw the same people he called my family standing at gunpoint by bodyguards.
"You told me you would leave them," I turned to Kian, looking at him with betrayal in my eyes, while his eyes held nothing but darkness.
"I will leave them if you behave," he said darkly, his heavy breaths touching my face in anger.
I didn't say anything and closed my eyes, letting my tears fall before opening them again and nodding. Kian moved closer, turning me fully towards him, his hand grabbing my waist. His tongue licked my tears off my face. I tried to push him away, but he pulled me closer with a jerk.
"Don't cry, birdy..." he whispered in a husky voice, his voice trembling slightly.
"Ahem... ahem... The guests are waiting," Mr. Well said. We both looked toward them and then back at each other.
"I want to let them wait, birdy, but I also can't wait to make you mine," he said, loosening his grip around me but still keeping his hand on my waist. I didn't say a word.
Mr. and Mrs. Well came to stand beside us, handing us a beautiful red diamond ring. We picked it up and slid it onto each other's fingers.
Kian smiled while I just stared ahead blankly. Kian held my hand and slowly started introducing me to other people, who didn't glance at me once. Why would they, after someone had been shot just for complimenting me?
In the whole hour that followed, I didn't utter a word or complain. Kian's grip on my arm tightened with each passing minute. When he'd had enough, he suddenly picked me up over his shoulder and carried me upstairs.
The people downstairs didn't care what was happening; they just enjoyed their drinks and food.
"Aren't you craving punishment, birdy?" Kian whispered menacingly.
Well if you though the engagement will be magical or something.... 😶. Then excuse me ...😅by the way....
