The next day came.( 04/09/2024 )
I was in the kitchen, and Kian was gone for work. Yesterday was spent with some peaceful and some hurtful talks and moments, but still, today, all of that made me smile.
I picked up a small cloth and started wiping the kitchen stand while humming a song. Suddenly, the doorbell rang, and I flinched at the sudden sound. I placed the cloth on the stand and walked toward the door, debating whether I should open it or not.
Then I turned back and ran toward my phone, quickly dialing Kian's number. He didn't pick up, and the doorbell kept ringing again and again.
I sighed deeply, walked toward the door with the phone in my hand, and after taking a deep breath, I opened it. A man stood there in black, just like Kian's guards usually wore. He was looking at the floor and then glanced up for just a second before looking down again.
I frowned, and then he spoke.
"Master Kian has ordered me to take you to his office."
I looked at him for a few seconds and then moved back inside, wanting to find the keys to lock the door, when he spoke again.
"You don't have to lock the door, ma'am. There are guards present here."
I didn't know what to say. Kian was unbelievable, as always, but should I really trust this guard?
"Can you call Kian?" I asked softly. He nodded his head, pulled out his phone from his pocket, and dialed a number. Then he placed the phone in front of him.
"Lia... can you give the phone to the boss?" he asked, and a sweet voice responded from the other side.
"Yes, sure," she said, and something churned in my stomach. It felt awkward and hurtful at the same time.
After a few seconds, I heard a deep voice, which I recognized instantly to be Kian's.
The guard informed Kian about me and then handed me the phone.
"Kian," I whispered.
"Come here," came his stern voice, and then the sound of beeps started playing on the phone, indicating the call had been cut off.
I quickly handed the phone back as the guard stretched his hand, too embarrassed to do anything. I hurriedly pulled off the apron from my body and said, "Let's go." I looked all messy, with a loose bun, a gray woolen cardigan over a white top paired with gray jeans. I hadn't even looked at my face for four hours, yet now I was walking outside without caring because my husband had called me. Maybe he needed help, or maybe there was a problem.
I sat inside the car while the guard drove. The ride took more than fifteen minutes, and soon we were in front of a big glass building with so many employees in coats. I quickly felt self-conscious. My hand automatically reached up to my hair, and I unclipped the claw from my hair, letting it fall down my back. My long hair fully covered my back.
Then I noticed the door was open, and the guard was, as always, looking down. I clutched the corner of my cardigan and stepped out. I followed him slowly as he started taking me inside the building. With each step, my hold on my cardigan tightened. People were looking at me with curious gazes, and I felt nothing but shivers. This was new to me—seeing so many people at once. There were so many desks with computers, which I hadn't seen before. I gulped a big amount of saliva and quickly looked down. I could hear the conversations of both women and men.
"Who is she?" "Is she Mrs. Wells?" "Is she the one our boss married?" "She just got lucky." "She must be a gold digger—look at her clothes." "What's wrong with her clothes? I think they're decent," one girl said, and I quickly wrapped my arms around my body. "Can't you see that body?" another girl added, and I quickly told the guard to walk faster.
