As she cradled me in her arms, her eyes flickered once more. The darkness that surrounded her seemed to be feeding off her anger, her desire for revenge. I could feel her shaking with fury, the energy around her almost tangible.
“Don’t worry, Zach,” she said, her voice low and full of a strange intensity. “I won’t let anyone else take you from me. You’re mine. Only mine.”
I shuddered at the words, a chill running down my spine. This was no longer the Elesis I had grown up with. This was a side of her I had never seen before—a side that was terrifying and mesmerizing all at once.
I knew then that the mission we had come on was not the only thing that had changed. Our lives—our relationship—had been irrevocably altered. And as much as I wanted to believe it was just her protecting me, deep down, I understood the truth.
She would go to any lengths to keep me by her side. And if I wasn’t careful, I might never escape her dark, possessive love.
