She didn't answer immediately, her gaze fixed on the horizon. "I don't know," she said finally. "Sometimes I wonder if there could have been another way. But then I remember what they did to us. What they tried to take from me."
I placed a hand on hers, our bond as strong as ever. "No matter what, I'm with you," I said.
She smiled faintly, her eyes softening. "And that's why I'll never regret bringing you back. You're my anchor, Zach. My reason for everything."
