A couple hours before

"Hey shorty." I heard a voice say from behind me. I turned around to see Chance, flowers in hand. "Your mom told me what happened. Are you okay?"

I smiled, motioning to Kenzy sleeping on my lap, "The two of us are a bit shaken up. We were in the car when he passed out, but before he was shaking like no other and his skin felt ice cold."

Chance walked over and squished himself next to me, being careful not to disturb Kenzy. He placed the flowers on the table in front of us, and wrapped his arms around me for comfort. He's been rather affectionate lately and it's nothing like him, "Don't worry about it okay? There are some really skilled doctors here, they will give him what he needs."

"But what if he needs a heart? What if he needs it right now and nothing else will save him? You know he has heart problems, you've known for a while. Nothing can save him from what's going to happen, we've known that for years now but haven't come to terms with it."

Chance quickly made me shut up, almost punching me in my side. I gave him the death stare, and it's almost as if it only provoked him. He started poking my sides, making me laugh so hard that I nearly woke up Kenzy.

"Stop," I said through laughs. "She's going to wake up."

I looked down to see that she was already rubbing her eyes, almost exactly like you see in the movies. She opened her eyes, looked up, and smiled, "Hey C cat."

I laughed a little, for she decided that would be his name because of a character in a Disney movie that she is absolutely obsessed with. Chance loves it though, he once made a name card and pinned it to his shirt. But that shirt was his jersey, which happened to take place right before his big game. So he ran out on the field, blocking the goalie box as he usually does, with a childish name tag pinned to his blue and gold jersey.

"Hey K cat." He smiled.

Kenzy started laughing, "But cat starts with a C, and Kenzy is only my name but smaller. We took off the Ma."

She gives this same argument every single time, but there is never a reply from Chance.

He looked at me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. "I want you to read the note in that later okay? Probably about the time Brayden is in surgery. What I write will really help you."

I grabbed the necklace he had given me a while back on my birthday. It was still as simple and beautiful as it gets.

"Oh," he exclaimed, grabbing a piece of paper from his pocket. "This will help too. But you can't read it after the one in there, I want you to read it before okay? But you have to wait until the second Brayden is wheeled out of the room, no cheating."

I smiled, going to open the bottle but was stopped by his hand.

I give him a stern look, but he quickly said, "Let me do this."

He took the bottle from my hand, nearly touching my chest, took the cork out of the bottle, and started rolling up the note. Making it a small little scroll, he shoved it in beside the previous note. Then he smiled, a smile that looked like his fake smile, one that only I knew.

"What's up? You seem different." I asked, putting my head on his shoulder. I had took the bottle and placed it back on the necklace, it felt so much better, it was almost my comfort item.

He reached over and grabbed Kenzy's hand, she was trying to walk along the grout line on the floor, walking so shakily that I guess he got nervous. "I'm just a little upset about this situation, that's all."

"I'm sorry I freaked out on you earlier, you have nothing to do with this whole problem with his heart. None of us do really, just fate is at hand. You were just here for me and are the only person that I can scream at without having to worry about them up and ditching me. Thank you, you're always here for me and that means a lot."

He lifted his head and looked down at me, "I always will be, remember that."

He began to stand and I had no idea where he was going, "Um, might I ask where you're off to?"

He smiled, "I love it when you get so mature."

I smiled and over exaggeratedly flipped my hair back. But I stopped smiling, his lips were pressed on mine. I didn't know what to do, but I couldn't stand here. I actually kinda liked how he kissed. Wait, I'm kissing back. Why am I kissing back? I should be stopping him.

But before I could stop him, he pulled away. I looked at him, probably as surprised as I will ever be in my whole life. "I'm sorry. I had to do that at least once."

He kissed my forehead, gave me a huge hug, and started off again.

"I'll see you tomorrow. Don't forget to meet me here for coffee." I yelled.

He didn't turn, he didn't nod, he didn't acknowledge what I said at all. He just walked away.
