I met Chance in the 7th grade. We had a dance performance and our whole group was squished in a little corner of the library. I was so exhausted and it was probably the most obvious thing in the world at that very moment, so much so that Chance could tell. He had been sitting next to me, all kicked back and relaxed, where I was sitting up straight and trying to keep my eyes open.

He leaned over and whispered in my ear, "Hey, Khloe right?"

I looked over at him and he laughed a little and it took me a second to realize that he had asked me a question. I cleared my throat a little and spoke, "Yah, that's me. You are?"

He sat up and moved his backpack from between us, "I'm Chance Turner, I'm in your math and social studies class. I sit in the seat behind you." He moves closer to me, trying to make it seem natural, I moved a little closer to him.

"I can tell you are absolutely exhausted and need to sleep. Would you like a pillow," he said as he motioned towards his shoulder, "and an alarm clock?" he said smiling a little.

I had never talked to him before, I never even heard anything about him from anyone, but something about him seemed trust worthy. Somehow I felt as if I could trust him with my life, even if he had only offered me a shoulder to sleep on and a notice to when I need to go out and perform.

I looked him in his light brown eyes, he was smiling still and looked very attractive, "I think I'm going to have to take you up on that offer." I answered as I moved my hair into the grip of a rubber band on the side of my head.

He moved closer to me and put his arm around me, being careful not to touch me in anyway I wouldn't want him to. As I put my head on his shoulder, it greeted me with a warm touch in the dip in his shoulder. I fell asleep instantly and, as he had said, he woke me up when it was my turn to go up and perform. I had made my new best friend at that point.
