Chapter 19

If Kano walks into the room right now there is a very large chance I'll end up with a mark on my neck.

I turned around in my chair quickly to see Kano leaning against the entrance of the door. His lips were in a thin line and I couldn't really tell what he was thinking.

I glanced over to Hati and nodded my head towards Kano while standing up. Any help here? I wanted to plead. I did not want to bear Kano's mark on my neck right now. Would I be okay with that in a year or two? Only time would tell.

"If Kano was here she wouldn't need me to beg for attention." Hati snapped, "Yep, your girl just doesn't stop talking, does she?" I turned towards Kano to see that his grim expression didn't change. Talk about a mood killer.

Hati put his arm around my shoulder, immediately burning me and causing me to hiss. Kano growled at the same time. I threw Hati's arm off of me and took a large step away from him to create some distance.

Did he just forget that when he touches me it burns? I crossed my arm in irritation. "Hati was just leaving." I spat out, "Right?" I said to him, waving my head towards the door.

He looked at me like he was asking, you want me to walk past that big scary wolf? And I just rolled my eyes. He took a few steps towards Kano, then tried to start speed walking. Kano didn't let him get past him though, and caught Hati by the shoulder. They shared an intense look before Hati scurried away.

"You didn't even walk in on anything, he was just being annoying." I said quickly when Kano's hazel eyes slid back to me. "And look, you're here now. Yay!" I went over to him and grabbed his hand. The familiar tingles lit my arm ablaze. "Wooo, is it hot in here? It's definietly hot in here." Distract distract distract. There was no way this gal was going to end up with a mark on her neck tonight.

He stared down at me and I couldn't see what was going on in his hot head.

"Did you need something or...?" I asked, waiting for him to say something.

"Did I interrupt something?" He asked. His hand tightened around mind just briefly.

"What? No. Hati was just being an asshole."

He hummed, then tilted his head, "You hungry?" He suddenly asked.

I thought about it for a second. Was I hungry? "Not really... no. Why?" I asked.

"You've been in here for hours so... I thought you'd want to get something to eat." Kano's voice was low, almost whisper like.

"I mean I haven't really been moving a lot or anything so I haven't really burned any energy. We didn't find much in the books we were reading. I honestly think that we won't..." I felt his thumb move across the back of my hand in soft, soothing motions. "We won't find the stuff here."

"You want a tour of the pack grounds?" He suddenly asked.

"I..." I thought about it, was I really ready to be assessed by people older than me. Pack elders were the worst. But then again, I did want to go outside and was curious to see the real layout of the land. "Yeah, that actually sounds fun." I said.

He pulled my hand and led the way.

"Don't worry, most of the pack is doing pack duties right now." He commented as we walked the small pathway. Our hands were still touching and although it felt quite nice, I still made sure to keep noticing it. I couldn't let him get too close, even if I was the one to hold his hand first.

"How many warriors do you have in your pack?" I asked him.

"There's about a thousand pack members. I would say about 400 are considered warriors and guards. The rest of the pack duties are just maintenance work." I looked around the pack grounds. The small family units were very cottage like, similar to my own home. "We have about a thousand acres of land. My dad is looking to expand more into the rogue territory though." That made sense, the more land, the more pack members a pack could have, which led to a stronger pack.
