Surprisingly, the next two days went on without any trouble. Eloise and Elliot hadn't said a word to me, and there had been a few times where I would see their little group in the hallways. I hadn't seen Bali either, which made me think that she had gone to be with her brother, Kano.
Even thinking about him made me internally shiver. I didn't know if I was annoyed with him, or felt the need to be violently attached to him. It was weird, almost like there was a pull and instinct telling me to stay near him.
My wolf was becoming quite restless, which was also a red flag. I had taken her on a run in the words around the academy earlier to ease any stress and uneasiness that she was feeling, but she just grew more restless.
I sighed as I sat on my bed, grabbing my one bear skinned blanket that I had in my room. I left my other one in the library. After hanging out with Liam, Dallas, and Imala, I went to check if it was still there. It wasn't, which meant that it was probably stolen.
I leaned back into my wall, grabbing the book and placing it on my lap as I opened it. This book was actually very interesting. Reading the lines of an assigned book had usually bore me, but this one was an exception.
So far, I had read chapters about werewolf rankings, customs, and the effects of silver and wolfsbane. As every werewolf knows, silver and wolfsbane are the only known items that can critically damage a werewolf, other than the ripping or stabbing of their heart or their head. Attaining a lot of damage is also a way of death to werewolves, but that wasn't easy, since werewolves healed quickly. A crack in the neck would only temporarily paralyze werewolves.
Now, I had found my way to the concept of mates. Something that I knew I would dread more then enjoy. For some reason I was nervous to even take a glance at the lines.
I took a deep breath, then dove into the chapter.
There are two types of mates. Chosen Mates, and True Mates. Chosen Mates are a mating pair that werewolves choose themselves. To become a pair of mates, the male must mark the female with a claim (form of a bite) on their neck, then undergo the mating process shortly after. If a male marks a female and waits for a prolonged time to properly mate, then the mating process will be disrupted, and the claim will fade away.
In Chosen Mates, the human side is left content, while the wolf side is left damaged and unhinged. This is because the wolf side did not get a mate granted from the moon, which will leave them with an eternity of despair. These effects are not life-threatening, but rather physiological.
True Mates are mates given by the moon. These mates are granted by the Moon Goddess, also known as Selene. In true mates, a link between the female and male is established. This is known as a soul bond. Soul bonds are delicate, because they drive the force for a True Mate's mating process.
A True Mate's mating process is different from the mating process of Chosen Mates. The soul bond that True Mates have cause a pull to occur. This pull keeps the True Mate pair together, and the pull causes the wolf side to become more prominent at times.
The mating process of True Mates began at their first meeting. Age does not matter as long as their wolf is mature. When True Mates meet each other, the soul bond is recognized by their wolves. This often leaves the wolves confused, or restless, and makes the human side rely more on instincts that are given from their wolf side.
After the first meeting, the next part of the mating process is touch. Touching one another causes pleasurable Satisfaction for both parties to register. Tingles are another word to describe touch, as those are the feelings that are often described from a pair of true mates.
