It was early evening when Charles knocked on the door. Logan was the one to answer, Leo wagging his little tail furiously at the sight of his temporary owner.
"Charles," Logan greeted with a smile, stepping aside to let him and Oscar in.
"Logan," Charles replied warmly, stepping forward to give him a firm hug. "How are you?"
"I'm good," Logan said, and for once, he meant it. He crouched down to scratch Leo behind the ears, looking up at the Monegasque. "You're here to take this troublemaker back, huh?"
"Oui," Charles said with a laugh. "But it seems he's had a good time here. Maybe too good. He's a little rounder than I remember."
"Hey!" Lando's voice rang out from the kitchen as he emerged, wiping his hands on a dish towel. "Leo's been eating well, that's all."
"Lando has been spoiling him," Logan admitted with a grin, looking over his shoulder at his boyfriend. "Leo's probably the most pampered dog in Monaco."
As if on cue, Leo barked in agreement.
Oscar, leaning against the wall with a smirk, chimed in, "So this is what domestic life looks like, huh? You two feeding dogs and playing house?"
Lando rolled his eyes. "Jealous, Piastri?"
"A little," Oscar deadpanned, though his smirk widened.
They all settled into the living room, the scent of whatever Lando was cooking wafting through the apartment. Logan brought drinks for everyone, settling beside Lando on the couch. It wasn't long before the teasing started.
Charles, eyeing the way Lando's arm never left Logan's shoulders, grinned mischievously. "So, Lando, how are you handling the long-distance thing? You must be losing your mind every time you leave him here alone."
Logan snorted, leaning closer to Lando. "Oh, you have no idea. He called me three times a day while he was gone."
"Three times?!" Oscar burst out laughing. "Lando, you're worse than I thought."
"It was four, actually," Logan corrected, his tone teasing as he grinned at Lando. "I just didn't want to embarrass him."
Lando groaned, his cheeks reddening. "Okay, okay, maybe I was a little over the top."
"A little?" Charles raised an eyebrow, clearly enjoying himself. "Mon Dieu, Lando, Logan is a grown man, not a fragile vase."
Logan placed a hand over his heart dramatically. "Don't listen to them, babe. I appreciate all the love and attention."
Lando smirked, leaning in to press a quick kiss to Logan's temple. "See? He gets it."
Dinner was full of easy conversation, laughter, and a surprising lack of awkwardness. Charles and Oscar shared stories about the paddock, teasing Logan and Lando relentlessly, but it was all in good fun. Logan, for his part, enjoyed every second of it—the company, the normalcy, and especially the way Lando's hand always seemed to find its way to his.
As the evening wound down, Charles finally got around to putting Leo's leash on. The little dog whined, clearly not thrilled about leaving.
"Thank you for taking care of him," Charles said sincerely as he turned to Logan.
"Anytime," Logan replied, crouching down to give Leo one last cuddle. "He was good company."
"He was lucky to have you," Charles said before adding with a wink, "and you were lucky to have Lando."
Logan looked up at Lando, who was smiling down at him with a mix of affection and pride. "Yeah," Logan said softly, standing up to take Lando's hand. "I really was."
As Charles and Oscar left, Logan turned to Lando with a content sigh. "That was nice."
"Yeah," Lando agreed, wrapping an arm around his waist. "But I still think Leo's going to miss me the most."
Logan rolled his eyes but laughed, pulling Lando into a kiss. "Guess I'll just have to keep you busy then."
"Deal," Lando murmured against his lips, smiling into the kiss as the door clicked shut behind their friends.
After Charles and Oscar left, the apartment felt quiet again. Logan leaned against the kitchen counter, fiddling with his glass of water while Lando cleaned up the last of the dishes.
"So... do you think we should get you a dog?" Lando asked, breaking the silence. He leaned back against the sink, towel still in hand, his tone light but his expression serious.
Logan glanced up, surprised. "You think so?"
Lando shrugged. "I mean, Leo helped, didn't he? And it'd give you some company when I'm away."
Logan smiled faintly, swirling the water in his glass. "Yeah, he did. But what happens if I go back to racing? Especially if it's IndyCar. I wouldn't even be around to take care of a dog."
Lando frowned, setting the towel down. "Do you want to go back to racing?"
"I don't know." Logan sighed, setting the glass on the counter and crossing his arms. "Sometimes I think I do. Other times, I wonder if it's worth it. Getting dropped like that... it messes with your head."
Lando walked over, wrapping his arms around Logan's waist. "You're still an incredible driver, Logan. That hasn't changed. If you want to go back, I know you can."
Logan leaned into him, resting his forehead against Lando's shoulder. "But if I do, especially in the States, it's going to be so much harder for us. Long flights, different time zones... I don't want to lose what we have."
"You won't lose me," Lando said firmly, pulling back to look Logan in the eye. "We'll figure it out. If it's IndyCar, I'll visit between races. Hell, I'll fly out on my days off if I have to. We've been through worse."
Logan smiled, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "It still scares me. Being apart like that. I don't think I can go through what happened these past two weeks again."
"I get it," Lando said softly. "But we'll make it work. I promise. And if you decide racing's not what you want anymore, that's okay too. You don't have to decide right now. Just... take your time."
Logan nodded, resting his head against Lando's chest. "Thanks, Lan."
"Always," Lando murmured, holding him close.
For a while, they stayed like that, the quiet hum of the city outside filling the silence. Finally, Logan spoke again, his voice barely above a whisper. "Maybe we can hold off on the dog for now. Until I figure out what's next."
Lando pressed a kiss to his temple. "Whatever you want, babe. We've got time."
And for the first time in weeks, Logan felt a small sense of peace. It wasn't a solution, not yet, but it was a start. And that was enough for now.
