The days after bringing Zandee home had been pure bliss. Logan and Lando had quickly fallen into a routine, sharing the responsibilities of feeding, walking, and playing with the tiny puppy. Zandee was a bundle of joy, her antics filling their Monaco apartment with laughter and lightness. She had a knack for bringing out their softest smiles, whether it was by chasing her tail in circles or curling up between them during quiet moments on the couch.
But as the next race loomed closer, the fragile bubble of their peaceful life began to waver. It wasn't that Lando wanted to disrupt their harmony, but he couldn't shake the weight of what was coming.
One evening, they sat together in the living room. Zandee, freshly tired from a long walk, was snuggled in Lando's lap, her small chest rising and falling with each sleepy breath. Logan was on the floor, his back resting against the couch as he absentmindedly toyed with one of Zandee's toys. He looked relaxed, and the sight tugged at Lando's heart.
For a moment, Lando debated staying quiet, letting the peaceful silence linger. But the words sat heavy in his chest, and he knew he couldn't keep them in any longer. Gently stroking Zandee's fur, he took a deep breath and said, "Logan?"
"Hm?" Logan looked up, his expression softening as he met Lando's gaze. "What's up?"
Lando hesitated, the words feeling heavier now that they were on the verge of being spoken. "The US GP is coming up next week," he said carefully.
Logan's posture stiffened slightly, and the ease in his expression faltered. "Oh," he said quietly.
"I know," Lando said quickly, trying to preempt the reaction he feared. "I know it's a sore topic, and I don't want to push you into anything. But I was thinking... maybe you could come with me. Not to the track," he added hastily, "not if you're not ready for that. But just... to be there. At the hotel. With me. And Zandee."
Logan's gaze dropped to his hands, his fingers fiddling with the edge of Zandee's toy. "I don't know, Lando," he said softly. "It's not that I don't want to support you. I do. But..." His voice wavered, and he trailed off, swallowing hard.
Lando leaned forward, his free hand resting lightly on Logan's shoulder. "It's okay," he said gently. "You don't have to decide right now. And you don't have to do anything you're not ready for. But... I'd really love for you to be there. Even if it's just in the background. Even if it's just in the hotel. Having you close would mean everything to me."
Logan's heart ached at the sincerity in Lando's voice. The care and patience Lando always showed him felt like a lifeline, something steady and unwavering even when everything else felt uncertain. But the thought of returning to anything remotely connected to racing filled him with dread.
"What if I can't handle it?" Logan asked quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.
Lando's hand slid from his shoulder to his hand, squeezing it reassuringly. "Then we'll deal with it together," he said firmly. "Logan, you're not in this alone. You don't have to face anything by yourself. I'll be there every step of the way."
Logan let out a shaky breath, the weight of his fears pressing down on him. "But what if I break again?"
"You won't," Lando said, his voice steady. "And even if you stumble, I'll catch you. Just like you'd do for me."
The simple conviction in Lando's words made something in Logan's chest loosen. He blinked rapidly, trying to keep the tears at bay. "You really think I can do this?"
"I know you can," Lando said, his expression soft but certain. "And it doesn't have to be all at once. This isn't about the track or the media or anyone else. It's just about you and me. And Zandee," he added with a small, teasing smile.
