The door to the hotel room clicked open, and Lando stepped inside, his shoulders heavy from the weight of the day. His eyes immediately found Logan, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, Zandee snoozing beside him. Logan's face lit up when he saw Lando, a soft smile spreading across his lips.
"Hey," Logan greeted, standing up and crossing the room to meet him. Without a word, he reached out, wrapping Lando in a tight hug.
Lando exhaled, letting the tension melt away as he buried his face in Logan's neck. "Hey," he murmured back, his voice muffled.
Logan pulled back just enough to look at him, his hands resting on Lando's arms. "I've got everything packed and ready to go," he said, nodding toward the neatly stacked suitcases by the door. "We've got about two hours before we need to leave for the airport."
Lando's brows lifted in surprise. "You didn't have to do all that," he said, though the appreciation in his voice was clear.
Logan shrugged, a small smirk playing at his lips. "Figured you'd want some time to shower and unwind. I've got fresh clothes ready for you." He gestured to a neatly folded pile on the bathroom counter.
Lando's heart swelled at the thoughtfulness. It was the little things—Logan knowing what he'd need before he even asked, going out of his way to make things easier. It made Lando feel seen, cared for, and above all, loved.
"Thank you," Lando said earnestly, leaning down to press a kiss to Logan's forehead.
Logan grinned, his eyes sparkling mischievously. "Oh, and I might've stashed some fresh clothes for myself in the bathroom. You know, in case you wanted company."
Lando couldn't help but laugh, the tension from the day dissolving further. "You're the best, you know that?"
"I try," Logan replied with a wink, grabbing Lando's hand and tugging him toward the bathroom.
---
The shower was quick, more out of necessity than preference. The warm water cascaded over them, and Logan made the most of the time, gently lathering soap over Lando's back and shoulders, his touch soothing and deliberate.
As they rinsed off, Logan reached for the towel, wrapping it around Lando before grabbing one for himself. "All clean and ready to go," he teased, rubbing at his damp hair.
Lando smiled, pulling Logan into a quick kiss. "Seriously, though. Thank you—for packing, for this, for... everything."
Logan kissed him back, his hands resting on Lando's waist. "You don't have to thank me, Lando. I just want to make things a little easier for you."
"You do," Lando said simply, his voice filled with emotion. "More than you know."
As they stepped out of the bathroom, Zandee perked up from her spot on the bed, her tail wagging at the sight of them. Logan leaned down to scoop her up, pressing a kiss to the puppy's head.
"Alright, let's get moving," Logan said, his tone light but determined. "We've got a plane to catch."
----
After their quick shower and final preparations, the two made their way to the waiting car, Zandee nestled comfortably in Logan's lap. The drive to the airport was quiet but not tense, with Logan occasionally murmuring soft reassurances to the puppy when she shifted. Lando leaned back in his seat, his eyes drifting to Logan every few minutes, the sight of him soothing the lingering frustration from the day.
As they boarded the private jet, Logan made a point of keeping things light. He chatted about Zandee's antics while Lando had been away, like how she'd tried to chase a bird on the balcony and ended up startling herself.
"She's fearless until something moves faster than she expects," Logan said with a chuckle, stroking Zandee's fur.
Lando grinned, his mood already lifting. "Sounds like someone else I know," he teased, nudging Logan playfully.
"Me?" Logan feigned offense, pressing a hand to his chest. "You think I scare that easily?"
"No, but you've definitely got the fearless part down," Lando said with a wink.
As the plane leveled out, Logan made sure Lando was comfortable before settling into the seat beside him. Zandee had dozed off, her small body curled into a tiny ball on Logan's lap. Lando rested his head against the back of his seat, his hand absentmindedly reaching out to toy with Logan's fingers.
"So, tell me," Lando said, his voice softer now, "what did you do today?"
Logan tilted his head, slightly caught off guard. "Me? You really want to know?"
"Of course," Lando replied, turning his head to look at Logan. "I want to know everything. How you spent your day, what you ate, what Zandee did to make you laugh. Anything. I don't want to talk about racing or the paddock or... any of that. Just you."
Logan's chest tightened at Lando's sincerity, a warm, glowing feeling spreading through him. "Well," he started, a small smile tugging at his lips, "I took Zandee to the park this morning. She met another puppy—this tiny fluffball that could've been her twin. They chased each other for ages."
Lando chuckled, the mental image alone enough to make his heart feel lighter. "And how did that go?"
"She fell into a puddle," Logan admitted, laughing at the memory. "Came back completely soaked and gave me this look like it was my fault."
"Sounds like she's got your attitude," Lando teased, his hand now lacing fully with Logan's.
"Hey, I'm nothing if not charming," Logan shot back with a smirk.
"You're definitely that," Lando said, his voice carrying a deeper affection that made Logan blush slightly.
The conversation meandered from there, touching on small, mundane details about Logan's day. He told Lando about trying to cook something new and failing spectacularly, about reorganizing one of the shelves in their apartment because it had been bothering him, and even about the silly video he'd started making of Zandee for fun.
Lando listened intently, hanging onto every word, occasionally interjecting with questions or little jokes. It was exactly what he needed—a distraction from the chaos of racing, a reminder of the life they were building together outside of it.
As the flight went on, the tension in Lando's shoulders eased completely. He squeezed Logan's hand, catching his gaze. "Thank you," he said softly.
"For what?" Logan asked, tilting his head.
"For being you," Lando replied. "For making me forget, even just for a little while, how stressful everything else can be."
Logan leaned over, pressing a gentle kiss to Lando's lips. "Always."
When the plane finally began its descent, Lando felt more grounded than he had all week. Coming back to Logan, to Zandee, to their little bubble of love and support—this was what made everything else worth it.
