The aftermath left the area in ruins. Rem, Kirito, and Nobunaga had somehow endured Pitou's onslaught.
Yet, astonishingly... she refrained from delivering the final blow. There she was, kneeling and gasping for air, her body still contorted.
Even in her distorted state, a hint of restraint was evident. Rem clung to Pitou, embracing her with all her strength.
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she implored, "Please, Pitou... come back to us... we want to help you. Just tell me what happened... please." Her voice trembled, heavy with emotion as she wept.
Rem's persistence bore fruit when Pitou finally uttered a word.
"Y-Yumomi..........M-Miura......"
Rem's heart raced at the mention of her children's names. "Your kids? What happened to them..." she asked, concern creeping into her tone.
"Jason........they're.........they're gone," Pitou replied, her voice trembling as her Aura began to swell once more.
Nobunaga, refusing to succumb to the chaos around him, pulled himself from the debris, his hand pressed against his wound. His voice trembled as he spoke, "Ugh... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... he lied... I'm not sure what his plan was, but it seems he wanted to toy with her."
Just as he finished, he crumpled to the ground, teetering on the edge of unconsciousness.
Before Kirito and Rem could react, Pitou shoved Rem aside. "STAY... AWAY..." Her voice was twisted and strained.
Rem stepped in front of her. "Pitou! Please! Fight it! I know you're still there. Whatever Jason told you isn't true. Your children are safe with Vic, remember? He would never let anything happen to them."
Pitou struggled fiercely against the turmoil within her. Suddenly, her aura erupted, and she let out a terrifying roar.
She seemed poised to attack, but in a moment of clarity, she chose a different path.
With a desperate sprint, she fled, leaving Rem and Kirito in shock. "PITOU!" Rem cried out.
And just like that, she vanished into the distance.
The battlefield lay silent after Neferpitou's abrupt departure. The air, heavy with the lingering tension of her aura, still crackled faintly. The ruins around them told a story of destruction, yet amidst the chaos, there was an odd sense of relief-they had survived.
Kirito collapsed to her knees. "She... she could have killed us," she whispered, her voice trembling. "Why didn't she? What held her back?"
Rem stood motionless, staring into the direction Pitou had fled. Her arms still felt the lingering warmth of the embrace she had given her, and her mind raced with unanswered questions. "She's still in there... I know it," she murmured. "She didn't lose herself entirely."
Nobunaga groaned as he dragged himself upright, using his katana for support. His face was pale from blood loss, but his sharp eyes still held a glimmer of defiance. "Hah... you call that restaurant? She nearly killed all of us." He spat onto the ground, shaking his head. "But something stopped her at the end... something about her kids, wasn't it?"
Rem knelt beside him, her hand resting gently on his shoulder for support. "Yes," she murmured. "She spoke of Yumomi and Miura... her children. Jason must have revealed something-something so heartbreaking that it drove her to this point."
Kirito's face darkened with anger. "Jason..." she echoed, her voice laced with bitterness. "Who is he? What could possibly motivate him to hurt her like this? What does he stand to gain from her suffering?"
