Ella didn't even try to go to bed. After meeting Richard, she visited a few more acquaintances before heading home. A refreshing shower, a fresh shirt, a couple of sandwiches to go, and back to the station, even though it wasn't even six in the morning.
She couldn't bear to be alone with her thoughts, so she tried to be constantly on the move.
-How's your night, Andy?- Ella asked, greeting the sleepy officer with decorum.
-Everything's quiet.- The man said, suppressing another yawn and hurriedly fixing his hair.- A couple of prostitutes were brought in, but I quickly filled out the paperwork, gave them a ticket, and sent them home so they wouldn't take up space in the prison cell.
-Good, thanks.- The woman nodded approvingly, handing the officer a holder with two cups of coffee.- You look like shit, cheer up a little.
-You don't look so good either.- The man said without a backward glance, gladly taking one drink. The officer almost choked on the first sip when he realized what he had said and to whom. And Ella's slightly raised eyebrows and burning stare didn't bode well.- I'm sorry, ma'am. I meant that you look sleep-deprived... because obviously you always look very... well, I mean, very... ahem... beautiful. And I... uh.
-Better not finish that sentence.- Ella sighed, shaking her head as she headed toward the prison cell, saving the officer from a panic attack.
-Good job, Andy, keep it up... now she thinks I'm a jerk for sure.- The man barely audibly chided himself as he gazed dreamily at the woman.
Jennie didn't seem to have moved a millimeter since Ella had last seen her. She was still sitting on the floor of the dingy prison cell, her back against the wall and her knees drawn up to her chest. She certainly didn't look sleepy. She was still as devastated and indifferent to what was going on around her.
-I brought some food and coffee. Of course, they're supposed to bring breakfast here in a couple hours, but it usually looks and smells like slop, so I'm not sure it's edible.- Ella said quietly, looking at her sister, who didn't even look back at her.- You need to eat, okay? Jisoo would kill me if she knew you were sitting here hungry.
When she heard the brunette's name, Jennie gave her sister a piercing stare that made Ella uncomfortable.
-I'll leave it here. Andy will clean it up when he leaves.- The woman mumbled, wanting to get away from that stare as soon as possible.
-Your friend?- After a while, a husky male voice came from the other end of the cell. Jennie had forgotten she was not alone in this cell.
Looking up tiredly, she got her first look at her cellmate, a guy about her age with short-cropped hair and shaved temples. Now he was sitting up, stretching his neck and arms after a night spent on a too hard bench. Probably a lot of people would be stressed out about being next to someone like him, but Jennie had too many acquaintances, the same pumped-up guys she'd trained with and worked out with a bunch of times. Besides, there wasn't a shred of aggression in his gaze, or any secret intent. The same poor guy, thrown here by chance.
Without waiting for any response from the girl, the guy continued his speech.
-It's good to have friends in places like this. The lady's telling you the truth. The food here is the worst.
When she heard the word "lady," Kim shuddered involuntarily. It was a frequent reference to Felix when he told his stories. He was a funny kid. Was.
Swallowing tightly, the brown-haired girl forced herself to dismiss the thoughts, returning her face to a dispassionate look. With that impenetrable look, she pushed the paper bag and the cup toward the guy. He was clearly surprised at the generosity, but he didn't hesitate, taking the chance to fill his stomach with something edible.
