Aadhriti sat in the dimly lit living room, her arms wrapped tightly around her knees as she stared at the darkened television screen. The only source of light came from the streetlamp outside, casting long shadows across the room. Silence surrounded her, yet her mind was anything but quiet.
Ekaksh's words played on repeat in her head. If something ever happens between us... They had been meant as a casual remark, a throwaway response to a fan's comment. But to her, they meant everything. Every unspoken feeling, every suppressed hope, every moment where she had dared to dream—it all came crashing down on her at once.
Her fingers dug into her arms as a lump formed in her throat. Why am I feeling this way? Why does it hurt so much? The question echoed in her mind, but no answer came. Instead, an overwhelming sense of suffocation crept up her chest, tightening like a noose around her lungs.
Her breathing grew shallow. She could hear her heartbeat pounding in her ears, loud and erratic. The room seemed to spin, the edges of her vision blurring as dizziness overtook her. A faint ringing noise filled her head, drowning out every coherent thought.
Calm down. It's just overthinking. You need to breathe.
She tried to take a deep breath, but it felt like her lungs refused to expand. Panic clawed at her throat, making it harder to inhale. Her hands trembled as she reached for the armrest of the sofa, trying to steady herself, but her body felt weak—too weak.
No... not now...
She squeezed her eyes shut, willing the feeling to go away. But her chest only grew tighter, the pain spreading to her head. Her vision darkened around the edges, and for a fleeting moment, she thought she was going to pass out.
Aadhriti had dealt with high blood pressure before, but never like this. Never to the point where she felt as though she was losing control of her own body. Her fingers tingled, her limbs turning cold, and a sharp ache shot through her temples.
She needed help.
With shaking hands, she fumbled for her phone on the coffee table, barely managing to grip it. Her vision swam as she tried to unlock it, but her fingers felt numb, the screen slipping from her grasp. The phone hit the floor with a dull thud, its screen lighting up for a second before going dark again.
Tears burned in her eyes as frustration and fear consumed her. Why now? Why when I'm alone?
A desperate sob escaped her lips as she curled into herself, pressing a hand to her chest as though it could somehow steady the wild thumping of her heart. She couldn't breathe. The walls felt like they were closing in, suffocating her with every second that passed.
She wanted to scream, to call out for someone—anyone—but her throat felt too tight. Her mind was a storm of panic, each thought crashing into the next, leaving her trapped in a spiral of fear.
Just then, a faint buzzing sound echoed in the silent room.
Her phone was ringing.
Her blurry gaze flickered to the floor where the screen lit up. Ekaksh.
