Family now, family always

The rain pitter-pattered against the window pane, his eyes re-focused on his reflection once more. He tore his eyes to look at the photograph that he kept on his bedside table. He smiled at his siblings and friend. He saw Jun with his black bangs hanging over his eyes, not enough to cover them but enough to cover his eyebrows. Ash on the other hand had a bit more wild hair a rich brown color. He had reddish brown hair and was tied back in a short ponytail. He then focused on their best friend, Vella Zachnee. Her dark blonde hair was pulled up in double buns, her brown cargo jacket was tied around her waist, and her smile genuine. Speaking of which, our favorite sister, the said girl, her silver irises were full of fear. They all gasped at the sight of her, she was bl££ding from her nose, her hands and some of her face, her eyes were swollen with tears, she was shaking hard enough to see. "Vella!" The three exclaimed rushing over to her. " Vella, what's going on?" Ash questioned. This wasn't the first time she's come over like this. "M-my parents." She stumbled out. "They did this to you?" Jun asked. Vella hurriedly nodded, something that often happened when she was scared or nervous. "We need to get help." Caleb agreed.
"I'd suspected it for a long time and what she said confirmed." Depa Jarrus explained. The girl was fidgeting with her hands. She was still doing it when they got home. That Christmas Eve Vella was squashed in a pile with her brothers. Ash was at the bottom left, Caleb bottom right, Jun was in the middle right and in the middle was Vella clinked to Jun 's arm, squished against Caleb's chest and then with ash's back. She had a genuine peaceful smile on her face. Depa snapped a picture of the four children. She was excited to see Vella open her gift.

"To mom, love the three of us, four even." Ash said handing her a gift. She smiled when she pulled out a small locket necklace. It was a gold chain with a heart shaped charm on the end. "This one is for Vellie." Jun chirped handing her a small box. "This one's from all of us." The girl smiled softly and opened the box lifting a round sky blue ornament with her name painted in silver letters. She spotted a folded sheet of paper. "Vella, you're a strong girl and a wonderful friend, so we've decided to expand our family through adoption. You already see us as family, how would you like to make it official?" She read aloud then looked up at them. "You wanna adopt me?" She said covering her mouth. "Yes, a million times yes." She said. With that she was tackled by her brothers causing the group to let out a happy genuine laugh. "We're family now and always." Ash told her.
