Xing held her knees to her chest as the waves rolled by. She looked up at the sky full of multiple twinkling stars. She had been there for a while now but she didn't care, she couldn't sleep, she was barely eating anything, she wasn't hungry. She was just trying to go day by day, but something she missed was her brother. He was training day and night for hours but hardly ever took a break. He was so focused on the eastern champion that he forgot things. Xing understood that he needed to do his job, and he didn't mean to forget about things it just happened. But it kept happening.
So she just stopped making plans, she stopped trying to do something with him, she stopped talking with him, going to his training session. She was often asleep when he came home, she ate alone, she did a lot of activities alone, and she came to accept that.
(Flashback)
(She walked past her brother training, but he stopped when she came by. He gave a large smile and a wave, calling out to her. She didn't stop, she just kept walking. When it happened again she started picking up speed, eventually running. He went back to his training with a pit in his stomach. As did Xing. They missed each other, but Xing didn't want to get Junjie in trouble for not doing his training. She ate dinner alone once again that night, as she washed her dishes, she thought back to her old memories with Junjie. Playing simple games, him teaching her to read, and so many other things. Her favorite was when he'd taught her how to use a wrist blade, like Junjie she could use a wrist blaster but she didn't know much at the time. Junjie stood behind her his hands gently guiding her small wrist, the girl flew back when she fired, but she laughed and smiled nonetheless, that was one of her favorite moments.)
Xing starred at her reflection, briefly seeing her brother but she quickly shook it off. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know dear how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away." She sang quietly, tears rolling down her cheeks. She just sat there with her thoughts unaware that a certain boy was watching her.
Junjie's heart sank at the sight of his only sister like this. He quietly walked over behind the girl wrapped his arms around her small frame. He just held her tightly, trying to calm her down. He studied her tear stained face. He could tell she was fighting sleep. He knew the feeling.
Joo-joo, Junjie's infurnus slug, hopped on the girl's shoulder, nuzzling her cheek with her head. Xing placed her pointer on the slug's head and gently ran it back and forth. "How did you know that I was here?" She asked her brother. "Because I know you." He replied, still holding his sister in his arms.
"I do not understand why you are avoiding me. If this is about what happened, I'm sorry. I never meant to-" he was cut off by Xing. "I get it. You're the eastern champion. Big title, big responsibility." She says softly.
"But I am always going to be Junjie Xiao for you, no matter what. I may snap, I may be hyperfoucsed, but I will always be your brother now and forever." He smiled into Xing's hair.
"You mean it?" She asked softly. He nodded and gave her a tight squeeze. "Bottom of my heart." He confirmed. She nodded and hugged him tightly.
Junjie picked up a round stone. "Think of this as your journey." He said placing it in her hand. "It may be round and smooth now, but at one time it may have been jagged and rough. You cannot compare yourself to others. You can aspire to be like them, but you can't compare yourself to others who've been doing it longer. They've had longer to perfect, but I know that one day, you'll get there. And I will be proud when you do." His planted a small kiss on her forehead. She held up her hand gazing at the stone.
"One step at a time, I'll get there one day." She repeated, tossing the stone, and then catching it in her hand. When the two went back to sleep, Xing was curled up next to her brother, Junjie kept his sister in his arms, the two holding other close. They had a journey ahead of them, but the bond between the pair was too strong to be broken.
