"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" Tad yelled at his friend/crush, Em.  He sat down on the ground holding his knees to his chest. Even though she never knew he was a prince, the two had a mutual bond. "Then help me understand. I want to help you but I need to know what I'm up against." Em's gentle voice broke his thoughts.

"I'm not talking. I don't know how." He replied tears streaming down his face. Em scooted closer to him. She put her hand on his shoulder. "Please Tad. I want to know how I can help you." She said softly beginning to worry.

"I don't want you to feel like you have to leave me alone." He said, placing his hand on hers. "I'm your friend, tad, I want to help you to feel better." She smiled at him. Oh floppers, that smile, when she smiled like that he wanted to melt.  "I don't wanna lose my only friend." He continued.

"I'm sorry you feel that way about me. I'm sorry if I ever made you feel like you had to hide something from me." She apologized. "It's not your fault, it's just, I don't know how to explain." He responded. "Just think for a moment and let me know." She got up, walked to the stream and started skipping rocks. Tad watched her with a gentle caring gaze. She was his only friend, and vise versa.

He studied her. The purple skirt she wore was fasten at the top with a black corset belt, and the bottom of her off the shoulder white top. Her black-blue hair was fastened in a ponytail with a lavender cloth. Her blue eyes were a sea full of stars. Her laugh was sweet, gentle and hopeful.

"I'm not who you think I am, kitten, I'm different." He admitted. "Different how?" She inquired. "I'm the son of the highest ranking official in the kingdom." He slipped. Em dropped her stone and looked at him. "So that means you're a-" she asked. "Yes, I am." He cut her off standing in front of her. He took her hand and gently placed a kiss on the back. "Thaddeus D. Blakk. Pleasure to meet your acquaintance."  He partially joked. "Emily." She replied with a curtsy.

Tad knew he had found the one. He reached into his satchel and pulled out a simple circlet crown. It was black with points sticking up and had a ruby in the middle. He gently slid it onto her head, so that the gem rested on her forehead. "I'd like you to be my date for the ball tonight." He smiled, brushing a stray hair over her ear. She hesitated for a second before she agreed.
