"They hauled her in," Loris said, his voice heavy with regret as he snapped me out of my overwhelming thoughts. He stood just a few feet away from me, his usual easy demeanor overshadowed by tension.
The words hit me like a cargo train. My fists clenched at my sides as a surge of fury boiled up inside me, hotter than any blast I'd ever faced. "Arrested my sister—after everything she did to save her life?" I shouted, my voice echoing in the small room as I began pacing back and forth like a caged animal. My boots thudded against the floor, each step a small release for the rage building inside me.
Loris looked away from the sharpness in my voice. He leaned against the wall, his arms crossed, a sympathetic look on his face. That look only made my anger burn hotter. It wasn't his fault.
"I couldn't do anything, Vi," he said, his voice calm but weighed down with guilt. "If I could've stopped them, you know I would've."
I stopped in my tracks, glaring at him, though my anger wasn't really aimed at him. It was Caitlyn—or whoever the hell thought they had the right to drag Jinx off in cuffs after what she'd done for her. "What could they possibly be thinking?" I spat, my hands twitching at my sides as if they wanted to grab something, anything, to punch.
"There's more," Loris said carefully, his tone laced with hesitation.
I froze mid-step, the tension in the room thick enough to choke on. My head snapped toward him, my brow furrowed. "What could possibly top it off?" I demanded, my voice low but dripping with venom.
"What, are they planning to take little Isha too? Lock her up because she—what? Almost blew us all up? Maybe she should've just done that!" The words spilled out before I could stop them, bitter and sharp. I wasn't angry at Loris—I was furious at the system, at Caitlyn, at the damn unfairness of it all.
"Vi, listen to me," Loris interjected, holding his hands up defensively, though his expression remained calm. "They're saying Jinx isn't the only one. They want y/n too."
The air left my lungs like I'd been punched in the gut. "y/n?" I whispered, the disbelief in my voice quickly giving way to more anger. "Why the hell would they want her?"
"They're saying she's an accomplice," Loris explained, his voice steady but laced with frustration. "After everything that happened, after the explosion—"
"She wasn't an accomplice!" I snapped, cutting him off. My voice shook with rage. "She didn't even know half of what was going on. She tried to save us, Loris! Saved all of us, and this is how they repay her?"
"They don't care about that, Vi," Loris said, his tone soft but firm. "To them, she's guilty by association. They've got Jinx, and now they're saying y/n's next. The moment they find out she's awake..." He trailed off, letting the weight of his words settle between us.
