The only conversation at both home and the hospital for weeks has been 'will meredith grey win the harper avery?' but honestly it never really mattered to me.

Somehow even the kids at school got wind of it and so did the teachers. I remember when Mrs. Kim found out and the look on Will's face finding out his mother's murderer was nominated for an award.

finally my mom and Owen have called it quits. I didn't like the idea of having him as my step dad, plus I don't know what she was thinking marrying him, but all respect to her.

Mer, Alex, and I took a ferry this morning before they were off to the award ceremony in Boston. "Derek would be so jealous" Meredith smiled softly.

"Oh I know he would" I agreed. "We're all jealous" Alex scoffed. "Hey, I'm not jealous" I joked. "Trust me Morgan, the piece of plastic is not all it's choked up to be" Mer smiled.

"Oh don't listen to her Moe, she's the one who's been nominated" Alex nudged me, "Plus she's just playing it off so she doesn't jink it when she wins" he whispered to me.

-------

"Relax it'll be fine" Alex urges as we walked through the hospital, Mer was supposed to be meeting the Avery's to head off.

"Private planes are bumpier than regular planes" she complained. "Hey isn't it just like yesterday we were interns hiding in the tunnels?" Alex smiled and they both laughed. It's weird to think about them this way.

All of a sudden a herd of interns rush in front of us, one bumping into me. "Sorry! Huge trama!" he shouted. "Huge trama?" Mer said to herself.

"No, no, no Mer. You're going to Boston" Alex grabbed her shoulders. "Sorry Alex" she turned in the direction of the other interns. "Well that's your aunt for you" Alex chuckled crossing his arms.

-------

"How are you this morning?" I asked joining Lindsey in her room. "I was good until I found out I have a pet scan this afternoon, can't wait to find out what cancer I have this time"

"Lindsey you can't think like that" I frowned. "Why not Morgan? I'm used to it by now" she shrugged.

"I'm so sorry Linds, I know there's nothing I can say to make you feel better right now, but hey do you want to hear something good?" I offered sympathetically.

"Please anything other than my depressing life!" she plead. "Well my aunt, Dr. Grey, is going to Boston tonight because she is nominated for this huge award" I smiled.

"That's your aunt?" she questioned, "are you related to this whole hospital?" "Not biologically but love is what matters, right? this hospitals a family within itself" I explained.

-------

"What is she still doing here?" I ask hours later fully anticipating her being in Boston right now. "She refused to go" Alex smiled as I sat beside him and Jo.

As the surgery concluded we all watched as Bailey wheeled in a TV to the OR. We all watch anxiously and the suspense built up. Would she win the war or would she not?

"Did I miss it?" Mom asked coming in to sit beside me. "No you're right on time" I grinned. "And it's my honor to present the harper avery award to Meredith grey" Catherine presented.

I watched as Jackson came on stage to take Mer's speech in her absence. It was truly beautiful. It shows how strong Mer is, because she has been through so much.

"I wish Uncle Derek could be here" I hugged my mom. "I know baby, I do too" she agreed leaning against me.

-------

"She won!" I cheered walking into Lindseys room. "That's cool" Lindsey looked down. "What's wrong?" I inquired.

"I have a tumor in my lungs and the mets have spread into my stomach" she explained. "Oh, I am so sorry" I frowned.

"It's okay it's just life, right?" she laughed through her tears. "It shouldn't be just it, this isn't fair" I frowned.

"Hey but your Aunt won that award, that's awesome" she changed the subject. "Well it doesn't feel as awesome anymore" I shrugged.

"No, it is. This is why my dad took me to this hospital, because of doctors like your mom and Aunt. So even though I probably don't have much time left, I'm glad I'm here" she smiled.

"I'm sorry-" she cut me off. "Don't be, I'm at peace with it. I hope one day you can be too" she held my hands.
