Chapter 41: flying the nest

Four months later a lot has changed.

Spencer and Daniella were still together and Jess along with the rest of the team loved her but of course not as much as Spencer does. Dani was really great and Jess loved how happy she made her dad.

Ethan had started going to mandated therapy, hotchs orders and it was really helping him though he still had his off days.

As promised Derek (along with some help of the others) was helping Jess and Ethan renovate their house and they were finally one day away from moving in.

Today everyone was finishing up paperwork at the office and starting to filter off home. Ethan walked over to Jess and sat down in the edge of her desk "hey do you want to go out for dinner tonight? It's your turn to pick where we go"

She playfully pretended to act surprised" are you asking me on a date agent brooks?"

"Maybe... Why are you interested?" He played along.

She grinned "I am but... can we take a rain check?" He frowned slightly at her response "it's my last night living with my dad before I move out and I promised him we'd hang out tonight and make the most of the last night being a family under one roof" he nodded understandingly.

"Fine well I suppose that's okay" she let out a small giggle "I'll be at yours tomorrow for about 10 to help you move your stuff okay?"

She nodded and then he gave her a small peck on the lips "i love you"

"I love you too, get home safe" he left and seconds later Spencer walked over.

"Are you ready to go home, for the last time?"

"Dad I'm not dying, I'm moving like five minutes away" she chuckled.

"actually it's Seven and a half." They started to make their way out together. She rolled her eyes "hey look I'm allowed to be sad that my only daughter is 'flying the nest' as they say"

"Don't you think you're being a little dramatic? It's was only a 'nest' for 10 months"

"Will you just let me be in my feels?" He joked making her laugh out loud.

"In your feels? Okay yeah dad you've completely lost it" they drove home and were immediately greeted with four of jessica's boxes stacked up in the hallway. "Is this all yours? Because You definitely didn't have half this stuff when you moved in"

"I still have some clothes and stuff upstairs to pack but I'll do that in the morning. okay what should we do for dinner?

"How about we order Thai food?" Jess smiled at the suggestion thinking about the first night she moved in when they ordered Thai food.

"Yeah Thai food sounds good" he went to the kitchen to order the food and got their game board out setting it up it up for chess. When he re-entered the room he looked surprised to see her sat in front of the coffee table waiting for him.

"What are we doing?" He asked sitting down opposite.

"Playing chess until I win and then after that we have cards to play"

"Well we are going to be playing chess forever then because you won't beat me" he gave her a smug look.

"Oh yeah? Watch me"

He laugh "oh your on!" they started playing, Hess did eventually win but only because Spencer let her Then their food arrived. After they ate they played a few more games and had loads of fun on their last night together doing all of their favourite activities together as they felt the bittersweet ending closing in on them. The next morning Spencer woke up early to help her pack the last of her stuff in her room. "Is that everything?"
