The studio lights felt warmer than usual. Maybe it was the nerves, or maybe it was just the heat off the cameras, but my palms were sweating in a way they hadn't since our first big show. I shifted in my seat, my fingers drumming against my knee, trying to keep my cool.
Beside me, David was... David. Calm. Effortless. Legs crossed, rings catching the light as he adjusted the cuff of his white shirt—sharp and perfect, just like always. And me? Black leather, ripped jeans, too many necklaces. Worlds apart, right?
Except not really.
He caught me staring. The corner of his mouth lifted just enough for me to notice, a secret smile meant just for me.
It felt so stupid that I was this anxious. I mean, we'd talked about this. Planned this. But now, sitting here, facing the press, it felt way too real. For months, we'd kept things private—late nights, hotel rooms, quiet moments where the world couldn't touch us. But hiding wasn't cutting it anymore. I was tired of pretending he was just a friend, tired of the way people whispered but never really knew.
Today, that was changing.
The interviewer cleared his throat, trying not to fidget as he stared between us. I couldn't blame him. It was a weird combo, I guess—Axl Rose and David Bowie. Old guard meets chaos. But it made sense to me. David kept me grounded. Hell, he'd probably saved me from myself more times than I wanted to admit.
"Alright," the interviewer started, shuffling his notes, "so, you two—bit of an unexpected pair to see together for an interview. Are you collaborating on something?"
I opened my mouth, but David beat me to it, all smooth charm like always.
"In a way," he said, voice steady, teasing. His hand brushed mine, just barely. "We've been working on... well, a bit of personal harmony, you could say."
My stomach flipped. It was subtle, but there. The way he was testing the waters, giving me an out if I wanted it.
I didn't want it.
I leaned forward, finally finding my voice. "Yeah. Actually, we—we're together. As a couple."
The words hung in the air, heavier than I expected. My heart felt like it was trying to break out of my chest.
Silence.
David's fingers—cool and steady—slid over mine, and he gave my hand a gentle squeeze. That was all I needed.
I kept talking, more sure this time. "I get it. We don't seem like a match. But... we are. He keeps me sane, honestly. And I'm not hiding that anymore. I don't want to."
David turned, eyes softer now as he looked at me, like he was proud. And God, did that do something to me.
The interviewer blinked, lips parting like he was searching for a question that wouldn't get him in trouble. "Wow, uh... that's—well, thank you for sharing that. I think a lot of fans will be surprised, but supportive."
David nodded, always composed. "Surprise keeps life interesting, doesn't it?"
And then he did the boldest thing yet.
Still holding my hand, he lifted it—right there in front of everyone—and pressed a kiss to my knuckles. Not showy, not dramatic. Just... tender. Real.
I forgot about the cameras. Forgot about the press. The only thing I could think about was how safe I felt in that moment.
David turned back to the interviewer, still holding my hand. "So," he said with a grin, "shall we talk music now?"
And just like that, the tension broke.
For the first time in a long time, I felt free.
