The 9th of February 2025
Autumn woke in her normal 'tangled up in Marjorie' position. As she looked up at the sleeping brunette she smiled and snuggled in for a few more moments before extracting herself and wandering sleepily downstairs. She switched the kettle on as she gathered the ingredients. Her intent was to be swift but silent. As she prepared their breakfast, she hummed Gotta Have You quietly to herself. She smiled realising it was a tune she had never heard before that day in Marjorie's lounge. It had become so important to them since then. She plated up their food and put them on the tray with the coffee before running to her study where she had hidden the Picasso blue calla lilies.
She quietly re-entered the room and sat the tray on her side of the bed before nuzzling into the brunette's neck and tracing patterns lazily on her chest. "Sunshine? It's time to wake up." As the brunette roused a smile crossed her face. "What are you up to?" A mischievous grin crossed her face. "Come on love sit up." As the brunette propped herself up against the headboard, Autumn grabbed the tray and sat it over her lap. "Flowers? Chocolate pancakes? What's this, Beautiful? What's happening?" She cupped her face and kissed her tenderly. "Happy anniversary Sunshine." She smiled into the kiss. "Happy anniversary Beautiful. You've been sneaky. What do you have planned?"
"Just this. We are going out briefly later, but the rest of the time is just you and me. Here. Together. As a matter of fact, I have arranged for both of us to have a day of annual leave tomorrow as well." The brunette's eyes lit up. "You truly have been sneaky." She moved closer and picked at one of the pancakes and put it in her mouth before kissing the brunette's cheek. "Go on and eat. I'll be right back for you." She disappeared into the en suite as the brunette sipped her coffee and savoured her pancakes. "How did you get so lucky, Marjorie" She was startled by the sound of the brunette speaking and turned her head to face the doorway. "Sunshine I am the lucky one." She blushed. "You weren't supposed to hear that." They both giggled. "When your ready come on in here. I'll be waiting." The brunette disappeared into the en suite as she finished her coffee and pancakes before following her.
As she turned to enter the en suite she saw the brunette chest deep in bubbles. The lights were dimmed, and the room was lit by the candles strategically placed about the room. The smell of sandalwood permeated the air as she began to disrobe. She stepped into the tub and slid herself behind the brunette kissing her cheek as she settled. "This is amazing, beautiful. Thank you." Autumn pressed her back against the brunette's chest feeling the electricity that every touch brought but also the calm she had never felt before Marjorie. As the brunette wrapped her arms around her, she settled her head against one. "This is lovely." As the water began to cool Autumn rose and grabbed the two robes wrapping one around herself before helping the brunette don her own. "We need to get ready. It's almost time."
As they dressed, did their hair, and make up, Autumn couldn't help but watch the brunette. The way she moved. The way she brushed her hair and styled it. The way she blew on the brush before she applied her blush. The way she held her mouth partially open as she applied her eyeliner. How she applied her lipstick. The way she looked at her. Her heart melted with the simplest glance.
As Autumn pulled into the car park in front of the pub, Marjorie looked at her questioningly. "The pub?" The brunette just smiled and went inside. She sat at the bar in the same place she had all those months ago. When Marjorie passed the threshold, her breath caught. She walked over and sat along side her love. "Autumn?" The brunette shifted in her seat but didn't turn. "Marjorie if you're here to give me a pep talk..." She turned to look at the brunette and stood grabbing her hand and pulling her to the exact spot before bending down on one knee.
"Sunshine eight months ago in this very spot at this very moment you kissed me for the first time. I remember leaning into that kiss so full of grief and wondering what the hell I was doing. Turns out my heart knew better than my head did. That day I was the most broken I have ever been, but today I kneel before you the most healed I have ever been and the happiest I have ever been. It would only add to my joy if you would do me the greatest honour and marry me?" As she spoke the last word, she flicked the little black velvet box open.
Marjorie clasped her hands over her mouth as tears welled up in her eyes. As she looked down at this beautiful woman who loved her, she couldn't imagine wanting anything more. "Yes, Autumn, yes, I will marry you. The tears were falling down her face when Autumn stood and put the ring on her trembling hand. The brunette pulled her into a passionate kiss when they were both startled by the noise behind them.
"Congratulations!"
When they turned Siobhan and Viv were stood there with broad smiles stretched across their faces. Viv looked to Siobhan and then back to the couple. "We promise we won't keep you. We sat at home with Jamie and neither of us could shake the feeling that we really wanted to be here for this. We are so happy for you both." The couple laughed and turned to their partners. Marjorie spoke first. "Don't be silly. Of course we would want the two of you here." She looked to Autumn who nodded. "Well, we aren't going to stay long. Mia and Clo have Jamie, and we should get him home and into bed." They sat around the table as Siobhan made a toast to the couple before she and Viv stood to go. As they watched them leave Marjorie looked to Autumn. "You wanna head home as well?" The brunette looked at her and smiled. "I'm already there my love." They gave each other a knowing glance before kissing one more time in their spot.
