My Fair Ladies

First Steps

Marjorie and Autumn were working quietly in the office, trying to get ahead of the day's work, before the nursery opened so they could hopefully finish early, and enjoy a relaxing evening together. Every now and again one of them would look over at the other, smile and go back to their work, until finally, they caught each other staring. Marjorie couldn't help but look at Autumn and lose her train of thought, the green eyes sparkling at her, conjuring up memories of the night before causing her to bite her lip. The brunette raised her eyebrow, 'Sunshine, hopefully if we get enough of this work done now, we can revisit what it is you're thinking about sooner, rather than later,' and she shot her fiancé a seductive wink just as the office door opened.

Siobhan walked in with a sigh, wearing Vivian's blue and white striped shirt over her own slightly wrinkled white blouse and put her bag down before flopping into her chair and not looking at all like her usual put together and composed self.

'You alright Siobhan?' Marjorie asked, concern in her voice.

'It's just been a big week and Viv is doing another double today,' the blonde pulled the shirt around her, as if to get closer to her partner that she had hardly seen all week.

'How's Jamie?' Autumn asked, her eyes glancing sideways at the unusual sight of Siobhan, not with a full face of make-up and hair a little less than perfect.

'He's such an amazing little man, but he is missing his mummy this week and last night he had a nightmare and,' Siobhan yawned, rubbing her eyes and running her fingers through her hair, 'I didn't get much sleep after that,' the blond trying to talk and stifle another yawn.

Autumn stood up, 'I think we could all use some coffee. Siobhan, your usual?' The blond nodded, combed her fingers through her hair and sat up straight trying to compose herself to start her day. The brunette brushed her hand over Marjorie's as she walked past her desk to grab her coat. The sudden reaction from both women still surprised them when it happened, the warmth that radiated immediately at the touch of each other, the sparkle in the brunette's dark green eyes and the smile from the deep blue one's looking back, revealed the depth of their love to the blond watching on.

Siobhan smiled at the interaction, as she turned to her own computer to begin working, her home screen opening to a picture of Viv and Jamie. She forgot her tiredness thinking of them both and of the weekend ahead; being able to have Viv home for a whole three days. Thoughts of Vivian's blue eyes were interrupted by a soft, almost hesitant knock. Both women looked to the door to see Clodagh smiling at them shyly.

'Sorry to interrupt you both,' Clodagh moved slightly in the doorway.

'Not at all my love. Is everything ok? Is Quinn alright? Everything ok with Mia?' Clodagh's smile widened at the mention of her baby and the redhead.

'Yes, we're all happy, but I have a late client, so Mia is coming to pick up Quinn this afternoon and,' just then Charlotte walked through the door her head looking down in her bag until she bumped into someone and noticed the silvery brown hair.

'Clodagh. Sorry, umm Hi. How's. How is Quinn today?' Char tried very ineffectively not to seem nervous, but she hadn't had a moment to compose herself like she usually did if she saw Clodagh entering the baby room. It wasn't that Clodagh wasn't one of the nicest parents at the nursery, but the brunette supposed she still felt bad about how things had ended with Mia and knew that her and Clodagh were together.

'Charlotte,' Marjorie interrupted the awkwardness, 'Umm, Vivian has been working long hours this week and Jamie is missing her quite a lot'.

Siobhan caught on to the managers train of thought, 'Jamie was asking about you and so I suggested to Marjorie this morning that Jamie would feel more settled with you today,' Charlotte looked a little suspicious, but smiled as Jamie was one of her favourite children to care for, 'So I'll let Carly know to go into the baby room.' Charlotte smiled at Marjorie as she left.
