Ever since your earliest memories, there's been a voice. The voice was fuzzy at first, and difficult to make sense of. You didn't understand what it was. You didn't understand where it was coming from, and why its pull on you was so strong. But over time, the voice became clearer. It sounded less like some strange, echoing static, and more like an actual person's voice. Like your voice.

The truth is, you've known it all along, but you were in denial. You didn't want to believe that this was actually happening. You hoped you were imagining it somehow. You hoped it was simply an irregularity that would one day disappear. However, it's clear that isn't going to happen. The voice won't disappear. It will never disappear. Not until the day you draw your very last breath.

After all, it's impossible to run away from yourself.

"Poor thing. Are you afraid? You look like you've seen a ghost. Don't worry. It'll only be scary at first. You're only scared because you've been rejecting me for so long. The moment you stop trying so hard to fight it... you'll see how much better it all feels."

You take a slow, shaky step backwards. "Shut up. Leave me alone. I don't know what the hell you are, but... I-I'm not staying here."

You turn around and try to run, but you have no idea where you're even going. Darkness surrounds you from every possible direction. The only source of light is coming from underneath your feet. As you run, the ground lights up your steps, ever-so-faintly-but eventually, that too fades into darkness.

"Shinsou!" you desperately cry out. "You used your Quirk on me, didn't you? Undo it, please! I don't know how your powers work, but you need to cancel their effects, right now! Shinsou, please. Please, I'm so..."

I'm so scared.

There's no response. You expected as much, but still, you dared to hope. You sniffle a few times, urging yourself to stay calm. It's going to be okay. It's not like this is the first time you've dealt with these thoughts. They've haunted you for quite literally your whole life, and everything's been perfectly fine until now, right?

Yeah. It's going to be okay-

"Aren't you curious?"

Without warning, your reflection appears in front of you. You reel backwards out of shock, and once again, you start running in the opposite direction, desperate to get as far away from her as possible. You soon realize that it's a futile effort, though. Everywhere you go, she appears again, and again, and again. You can't leave. You can't get away, no matter how hard you try.

This is the universe's way of telling you that you will never be able to escape from your true, twisted self.

Your breath hitches in your throat. Since there's nothing you can do, you just stand there, already dreading what comes next. Sure enough, your reflection is smiling again, with that same sinister look in her eyes as before.

"It's strange that you haven't even asked me yet. I thought it would've been the very first thing you tried to do. I know you've questioned it. I can tell that you've questioned it in your mind, over and over. Too many times to even count, really. I can tell because I am you, and you are me."

"We're not," you swallow, blood running cold.

"Hm? We're not... what?"

"We are not the same person."

That's what you say, but the words leave your mouth in a weak, trembling voice that convinces no one. Not the version of yourself as you are now, and certainly not your reflection either.
