"THANKS FOR AN AWESOME SET PENTICTON! GET READY FOR MARIANAS TRENCH," the crowd screamed in response. "AND SIMPLE PLAN!!" They screamed louder. "WE'RE ALL TIME LOW, HAVE A GREAT NIGHT!" they exited the stage. I would never get tired of this!
"You guys did great!" I went up to Alex hugging him. "You smell, go shower first." He laughed.
"Thanks Danielle. Are you ready to sing?"
"No but I'm doing it for you."
"AWWW how sweet," he said hugging me, holding my face into his sweaty chest.
"ALEX go take a shower!" I said pushing him away.
He pouted,"Fiiiinnnnneeee." I kept rehearsing the song when he left. I couldn't do this, something bad would happen.
"So Pierre was right you CAN sing," I turned seeing Ian. "He hasn't stopped talking about your voice. Is this your first time performing?"
"Um yeah I'm really nervous. I can't do it, I just know something is going to go wrong."
"You'll be fine, come here. We'll all be on stage with you, you won't be alone. Even if you make a mistake, just keep singing." He hugged me. I liked his hugs.
"Thanks Ian. I just feel like everyone will laugh at me."
"No one will laugh at you, you've heard the song once and you haven't had a chance to sing it much with Josh. People won't even care if you make a mistake! Don't worry about it you'll do great!"
"Thanks. By the way, where IS Josh?"
"Come with me," he led me to the side of the stage behind the curtains. "See that box? Josh is in there. Gotta go! Good luck!"
They said it was the 6th song in the set. This should be interesting...
"So this next song was meant to be sung with a girl. I finally found one that was willing to sing with me a few times. It's her first time singing it with me and she's only listened to the song once so lets see how it goes."
He started singing the song and my anxiety levels went up. I felt two arms wrap around my waist. "You'll do great," Alex said. He kissed my cheek. After a few moments he let go and I went up on stage and belted out the second verse of "Good To You". I made many mistakes but no one cared, everyone was too busy singing along and having the time of their lives. Finally the song was over and the crowd cheered. You could feel the energy radiating throughout the arena. This feeling was amazing.
"Give it up for Danielle, my new friend!" The crowd screamed. I felt myself smile as I looked into the crowd. "Thanks so much, you did a great job," he whispered into my ear as he hugged me.
"Thank you so much!" I whispered back. I walked off stage casually feeling proud for once. I spotted Alex at the side smiling. I ran up to him and immediately he wrapped his arms around me. This was the best feeling in the world; being hugged by someone who cared, singing in front of a crowd, being around people who loved you as much as you loved them. I waited over 18 years, waited for things to get better. Nothing ever did get better even though I was told multiple times that things would get better. I never believed it but I guess you just have to wait for that time to come. You can't rush things. Good things will happen when they're meant to happen, you just need to be patient. For me, the worst was over, the worst storm had passed.
A Fan's POV
This was my first time being on the floor for any concert and it was the best feeling ever. I was front row too! Marianas Trench looked better in person. They were singing my favourite song, Good To You, when a girl came out on stage singing the second verse. She was gorgeous; brown hair, white skinny jeans, grey converse that went to her knees and a white tube top. She had a nice voice too, no wonder Josh picked her to sing with him. When the song was over she was smiling into the crowd, like she enjoyed being there in front of everyone. With a final hug for Josh, she walked off stage. Someone caught her eye and she ran off stage hugging a guy. Wait, was this guy Alex Gaskarth?
Danielle's POV
"Danielle you did such an amazing job, I told you you could do it!"
"It felt amazing to be up there! Thank you Alex!" I hid my face in his chest when the rest of All Time Low walked by whistling at Alex.
"Ahem." Behind me someone cleared their throat.
"Hi Matt," said Alex. "Awesome set out there." Alex released me and I turned to see Matt standing there awkwardly.
"Um thanks. Danielle, can I talk to you for a second?"
"Yeah sure, " I said smiling walking to the Marianas Trench dressing room with him.
"So are you sure you guys aren't going out or..."
"Matt, we're just friends. He was just congratulating me on my first performance, that's all."
"Oh ok... well I wanted to say you did an amazing job out there. On behalf of the band, we wanted to know if you wanted to sing it with us the whole tour and maybe re-record the song with your vocals when we get back to Vancouver after the tour."
"That sounds great, but I'm not sure about the last part. I'll let you know by the end of the tour for sure," I smiled up at him. He was staring directly at me.
"Yeah that sounds great. Uhm..." I had no time to say anything. He leaned in and our lips connected. Pushing him off, I ran out of the dressing room, past Alex and headed for the bus. I crawled into my bunk and turned on my music, curling up into a ball. I just met this guy and he thought he could just kiss me?! Well this tour was going to be interesting, I knew that part for sure. I was sitting there, tears rolling down my face as I slowly drifted off into a light sleep.
Alex's POV
I was heading for our dressing room when I saw Danielle run out of the Marianas Trench dressing room on the verge of tears. I looked at Matt who looked upset. "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO HER?! MATT DON'T YOU EVER GO NEAR HER AGAIN!!!"
I ran after Danielle. She headed straight for the bus. I figured I should give her a few minutes to calm down. I paced back and forth while Simple Plan was on stage. What if he hurt her? What happened that she ran out so fast?
I decided to go back to the bus. I ran right to her bunk and saw that she was asleep. I crawled into her bunk wiping the tears from her face. I pushed the hair away from her eyes as she woke up.
"Why did you run after me?"
"Because I cared about you. I don't want anyone to hurt you."
"Alex," she spoke softly.
"Yes."
"Thank you. For being there for me. I wouldn't be where I am now without you. I owe you everything."
"You don't owe me anything, I'm just a guy trying to help a friend that he loves." I hugged her. She cried into my chest for a few minutes before she spoke.
"Alex, Matt kissed me. As soon as it happened I pushed him away and that's why I ran off. I've known him for a few hours and it was too much to handle."
"If it was too much, then you did the right thing. You can't let people abuse you and I'm happy you did that if you didn't want it to happen. Don't doubt yourself even for a minute that you made a bad decision because it wasn't the right time. Things happen for a reason."
"Alex, I don't know where I'd be without you. Thank you so much."
"Anytime, you know I'm always here for you," I hugged her until she fell asleep. I guess I wouldn't be meeting anyone tonight. I sent a text to the guys saying I wouldn't make it to meet fans. I liked this. Being with Danielle, being able to hold her like this while she fell asleep. I'm glad I bumped into her last year because I wouldn't be who I am now without her. Kissing the top of her head, I fell asleep. Why couldn't every night be like this?
