We Used To Be Something Surreal

The next morning, we were in a different state. I wasn't sure where we were but I knew it would be great either way. Today was dedicated to seeing Mayday Parade with Alex. He promised he would introduce them to me since I've been a fan of them for a while. I got changed into white shorts with a We The Kings tank top. I swear the only thing I would be wearing on this tour would be band shirts since I didn't have the time to unpack everything before we left.

All Time Low was playing at 5 today and Mayday was playing at 7:30 which gave Alex enough time to walk me over to their bus so he could introduce them to me before the show. All Time Low had signings and interviews all day today so I decided I'd walk around and watch a few local bands at Warped.

I found Travis eventually and told him about today. We walked around together, my arm around his waist just to be sure that I wouldn't get lost in the crowd of people. We watched a few sets together before going to watch All Time Low again, showing our passes to the security.

There were more people there today which would be good for the guys. Everyone looked like they enjoyed themselves.

The set was amazing and the crowd loved them. They came off stage and I was immediately hugged by a sweaty Alex.

"Did you like it?"

"Of course I did, how can I not?" I giggled, giving him a kiss on the cheek before wrapping my arms around him again.

He kissed the top of my head and held me tightly. It felt good to be in his arms again and I really did miss him.

I said bye to Travis who had an interview to get to and walked with Alex back to the bus. He changed and relaxed for a bit before going out to the Mayday Parade bus.

Before knocking on the door, he grabbed my hand and looked into my eyes. "They'll love you, don't worry. I don't think it's possible for someone not to like you." He smiled his crooked smile and kissed me. Our hands remained intertwined as he lightly knocked on the door.

"Hey Alex! How's it going?" he said to Alex. He looked at me before saying,"You must be Danielle. I've heard a lot about you, it's great to meet you! I'm Derek." He stepped off the bus then gave me a hug.

"Nice to finally meet you! I've been such a huge fan for years now!"

"That's amazing, thank you. Come in, I'll introduce you to the rest of the band."

Alex and I stepped into the bus. Their bus was decorated differently. It was a lot cleaner, that was for sure.

The other members were sitting in the front lounge playing video games. My heart was beating faster and my anxiety was getting worse. They all looked up from their game and smiled when they realized me and Alex were standing there.

"Hey there, you must be our special guest Derek was telling us about. I'm Brooks! That's Jake, Jeremy and Alex," he said pointing to each member as they waved.

"Nice to meet you guys," I said smiling. "I'm Danielle."

"Nice to meet you too," said Brooks, hugging me tightly. "Will you be watching our set tonight?"

" Of course, I wouldn't miss it!"

"Well if you're coming to watch, you're going to need a new shirt," he said pointing to my We The Kings tank top. "Follow me."

We walked out of the bus with Derek and Alex. Alex held my hand, looking down at me and smiling. Brooks led us to their merch booth, grabbing a shirt and a tank top.

"Consider it a gift from Mayday to you," he said smiling.

"Thank you so much! I love them!" I said hugging him and Derek again.

"Any time. We'd better get back to the bus to get ready for the show. It starts soon! We'll meet you at the stage, okay?"

I agreed and went back to the All Time Low bus and changed into the new Mayday tank top. I was excited for their set tonight. They were one of my favourites and I was excited to finally watch them.

Alex and I headed out half an hour later to get to the stage. We met the band at the side stage and just talked for a bit before they went on stage.

The setlist was amazing and I didn't think it cpuld get better until they started to play a familiar riff. Then Derek said, "This song goes out to a special girl that I met today. I was told this was her favourite. She's at the side stage right now and I wanted to invite her up on stage to help me sing it. Danielle, come out here." He smiled at me and gestured for me to go over to him.

I slowly stepped on stage, taking in the amount of people watching me. Derek hugged me tightly before singing the beginning of the song:

Others looked to us for what we built...

Derek's voice sounded amazing and I couldn't compare to it. Finally, it was my turn. I sang the second verse and I was joined by Derek for the rest of the song.

When it was over, the crowd screamed. It was an amazing feeling. Derek hugged me tighter than before. He said in my ear,"You sounded amazing! They love you. Thank you." He let go of me and smiled, his blue eyes looking into mine.

I mouthed a thank you to Derek then the crowd and ran over to Alex.

I never thought I'd be in this position ever. I never thought I'd meet someone who would save me, I never thought I'd find someone who loves me as much as I loved them and I certainly never thought I'd be on tour with all of my favourite bands. I owe it all to Green Day and Alex of course.

He wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed the top of my head. I wrapped my arms around him and buried my head in his chest, taking in his scent.

"I love you, Alex Gaskarth."
