Breaking Silence

The street is quiet, but her body screams,
Hasty steps, eyes that divert,
Fear is real, palpable, relentless,
But she still tries to resist, continues to walk.

Dirty words echo in the air,
Disrespectful gestures that make her freeze,
She looks back, but can do nothing,
Her dignity seems to be at stake, to be stolen.

Shame tries to invade her mind,
But she knows she is not at fault,
She lifts her head, courage in her chest,
Fear will not be her captor, not anymore.

But she is strong, her voice will not be silenced,
She raises her head, reborn from each aggression,
And with courage, she speaks up, she fights,
Because her body is hers, her freedom is her revolution,
And her strength is a cry that reverberates everywhere.
