One night, Jeena lay back on her bed, enjoying some quiet time in her room. The dim lighting cast a soft glow, making everything feel warm and cozy.
Her phone rested beside her, playing a slow, soothing song that filled the space with a calming melody.
But then, the screen lit up—an incoming video call from her dad, Mr. Kim. Without hesitation, Jeena picked it up.
"Dad!" she greeted cheerfully as the face of the middle-aged man appeared on the screen.
"Jeena, sweetheart! How are you?" Mr. Kim's voice was warm, though a hint of exhaustion lingered on his face.
"I'm good, Dad. I was just about to sleep. What time is it over there?"
"Around seven in the morning," he replied with a sigh. "Just finished breakfast. I don't have any early meetings today, so I finally get to call you without rushing."
Jeena smiled. "I'm glad to hear that. You've been so busy lately."
"I have," Mr. Kim admitted. "But I always make time for my daughter."
They chatted for a while about little things—the weather in Seoul, how the time difference sometimes made it tricky to talk.
Then, suddenly, her bedroom door swung open.
"Jeena, are you—"
Sunghoon stood at the doorway, looking a little caught off guard when he saw Jeena on a video call. He had knocked, but she was too focused on the screen to notice.
"Oh, sorry," he said quickly. "Didn't mean to barge in."
Jeena turned and smiled. "It's fine. Come in, Sunghoon."
Sunghoon stepped inside and sat at the edge of her bed. When he saw who she was talking to, his face lit up.
"Uncle Kim! It's good to see you."
Mr. Kim chuckled. "Sunghoon! I almost didn't recognize you. You've gotten even more handsome."
Sunghoon laughed. "Ahh, you're too kind.. Thank you, Uncle. How's New York treating you?"
"Busy as always," Mr. Kim replied easily. "But I'm happy to hear you two are doing well over there."
Their conversation flowed naturally, becoming more relaxed.
"Graduation's coming up soon, huh? Are you both ready for college life?" Mr. Kim asked, his tone curious.
Jeena and Sunghoon exchanged glances before Sunghoon let out a small laugh. "Honestly? Uhm— I'm not sure about that."
Jeena nodded in agreement. "Same. It still feels weird to imagine us actually stepping into a new world."
Mr. Kim smiled knowingly. "That's normal. This transition isn't easy. But there's no need to rush—just take your time."
Jeena exhaled. "How was it for you when you first started college, Dad?"
"Me? I was way worse than you two. I had no idea what major to pick, so I spent my first year completely lost."
Sunghoon laughed. "That's oddly comforting, Uncle."
"But in the end, you'll find your own path," Mr. Kim continued. "And if you ever need advice—or just someone to talk to—you know I'm always here, right?"
Jeena's expression softened. "Of course, Dad."
After chatting for a few more minutes, Mr. Kim suddenly asked, "By the way, when's your graduation?"
