Athena tugged her shirt over her shoulders, leaving her in a sports bra and shorts as she stretched. The multipurpose room was massive- Yuuei was no slack.
"What are we working on exactly?" She called to Nezu who stood faraway from her, with a clunky pair of goggles and an oxygen mask.
"Expanding your quirk abilities, of course!" He replied, cheerily. Despite Athena turning Nezu's job offer down weeks ago, he was insistent that she keep exploring the limits of her quirk outside of the teleportation and flash aspect.
"What part?" She asked as she approached the rat.
"You've mastered holding objects in the in-between, no?" Nezu asked, his little paws patting his goggles to make sure the seal was secure. Athena couldn't help but coo inside at how innocent it looked, despite the rat being one of the most conniving beings in Japan.
"Yeah," She pulled her mask from where it rested invisibly on her collarbone. "I keep my mask there and normally a knife on my hip."
Nezu sighed, almost wantingly. "You would be just perfect for government infiltration."
Athena blinked. "Thank you?"
"Anyways!" Nezu clapped. "I want to see if you can submerge entire pieces of reality into the lower layer, or hopefully the in-between layer."
Athena glanced around at the assortment of objects. "These are to test my range, no?"
Nezu nodded. "Indeed. I assume the buildings remain the same in the lower layer and stationary objects. If it is the same, what can and can't be transported? What happens if you break or move something in the in between layer that exists in the upper? The bounds of your quirk are unknown!"
Athena shook her head with a snort, tugging her mask over her mouth. The goggles clicked into place, shooting up from the mouthpiece. "Fuck it, let's go."
"Picture the rift you normally open, just for yourself." Nezu coached. "Open it wide enough to swallow me!"
Athena closed her eyes, picturing that feeling of piercing reality. She grabbed the edge of reality, but this time instead of pulling herself in, pulled it open, letting the opening wash over the area. The rip expanded almost instantly, rippling across the gym in a wash of blue.
"Contain it!" Nezu shouted. "Not too big! You do not want to bring unsuspecting students in and kill them!"
Athena flinched, mentally reaching for the ends of the rift and grabbing the edges to slow the rip from growing any more.
She grunted, straining against the first layer of reality as it tried to continue to expand, rippling against her control.
Finally, it settled within her hands. She had only managed to open the entrance about a diameter of 10 feet from herself, but Nezu's warning was enough to get her to stop it before it grew out of hand.
