Summer was lying in her hospital bed staring out the window replaying the previous day's events over in her mind. She could kick herself for running after Tara, she was giving that bitch what she wanted every time she reacted.

"Knock. Knock" Summer looked over to see her father in the doorway. Nick gave her a small smile. He hated to see his little girl in so much pain. "I'm not going to ask how you're doing because I know you're not well. Is there anything I can do for you Supergirl?"

Summer gave him a sad smile. "No thanks, Dad. But I appreciate you asking." She stretched and subconsciously put her hands on her stomach; face falling when she remembered what wasn't there anymore. Nick was across the room and at her bedside before she could blink. "It's not fair Dad, it's just not fair." Tears sprang from her eyes.

"No, it's not." Nick gently agreed, petting his daughter's hair. "I'm so sorry that this happened. I'm so so sorry."

Summer sniffled, trying to get herself back together. "Thanks Daddy." She grabbed her father's hand. "Can we just sit here for a little while?"

"Of course, Supergirl. Anything you want." Nick answered. The two entered a comfortable silence.

Later

Kyle was surprised to see Nick standing outside Summer's hospital room. The lack of Phyllis made him hopeful that nothing terrible had happened to his wife, but still there was always that chance. "Nick what's going on? Is Summer okay?"

Nick narrowed his eyes at his son-in-law. He could hear the concern in Kyle's voice, but he couldn't help but wonder why Kyle wasn't here with his wife. "She's fine, the doctors needed to examine her before determining if she can go home." He watched Kyle release a huge sigh of relief. "Where were you?"

Kyle froze. "What do you mean?"

"What I mean is your wife, my daughter is in the hospital and you were nowhere to be found. You took off last night and are just popping up now. So, my question is what's so important that you had to leave Summer's bedside to go do?" Nick sounded a lot more angrier than he intended, but he had just spent the last couple of hours listening to his daughter cry her eyes out; he was heated.

Now it was Kyle's turn to narrow his eyes. Where did Nick get off judging him? He knew Nick's less than stellar history. "Not that it's any of your business, but I had some things at Jabot to take care of. And I wanted some time to grieve this loss by myself. The last thing Summer needs is me falling apart all over her. I have to be strong for her."

Nick softened upon hearing Kyle's confession. "Of course you did. I'm sorry for snapping."

Kyle waved it off, "Don't worry about it. I know you were looking out for Summer."

"I'll always look out for my Supergirl." The father stated. Dr. Chandler came out of Summer's room telling both men that she was okay to go home. They each let out a sigh of relief. Nick turned to Kyle, "I'm going to just pop in and say goodbye so you two can have some time to talk." Kyle nodded and gave Nick his time with his daughter.

Kyle started pacing in the hallway, trying to think of what to say to Summer. He knew there wasn't some set of magic words to make everything better, but he had to say something. His phone buzzed signaling a text message, from CoCo.

Hey, I hope everything is okay with your loved one. Thanks for listening to me rant last night.

"What are you smiling at?"

Kyle looked up to see that Nick had left Summer's room. The smile fell instantly off his face. He felt guilty but he didn't know why. "A friend sent me a meme to try and take my mind off of this for a minute." The lie slipped out easily.

Nick just nodded; it made sense to him. "Okay then, I'll leave you two alone. Text me if either of you need anything."

Kyle agreed and thanked Nick again for checking in. His father-in-law patted him on the arm before leaving, Kyle barely felt it. His heart sank when he took in Summer's appearance. His poor wife looked so defeated with a vacant stare coming out of her red-rimmed eyes.

"Hey sweetheart" Kyle nervously greeted his wife. "Did Dr. Chandler tell you that you go home today?"

"Yeah, she did." Summer cleared her throat. "I can't wait to get home and see the family, especially Harrison. Thank God, we didn't tell him about the baby, he'd be so confused and sad. It's bad enough that we are." She wasn't sure why she was rambling so much. She'd never been the nervous rambling type.

"Yeah," Kyle replied not knowing what else to say. He just wanted to get her home. "Do you need any help getting ready? What do you need from me?"

Summer shook her head, "You being here is enough. I'll be okay." She started to get out of bed, Kyle ran over to help. "Kyle, I said I'm fine, just please give a minute." She snapped, feeling guilty as she watched her husband retreat in shock. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't be snapping at you."

"It's okay. I'll go wait in the hall." Kyle answered practically running out the door. Summer swallowed her guilt and confusion. The sooner she got out of this place the better.
