Eleven Years Later

"You'd think being a grown-up would be easy," you muttered. You had to hurry and get to that little cafe you worked at.

After arriving in New York, you lived a lonely life. You kept thinking about your friends, but unfortunately, time had the power to make your memories fade so you could barely remember what they looked like. You didn't make much friends at your high school.

Now you were in college with (Major), with a side job of working at a lousy cafe. Hey, it's not that bad. . . it could be worse. Your parents had moved to some other place without you so they could spend the rest of their life relaxing and luxuriating or something.

"(Y/N)! You're late!" The manager tossed you your dark green apron. "Hurry and start getting orders. It's a busy morning."

"Sorry, sorry," you gasped, throwing your bag onto a chair. The cafe was packed with people in need of a coffee, as usual. A delicious scent wafted around. Tying on your apron, you hurried over to the table your manager directed you to. Then you stopped.

This couple. . . looked very familiar.

"Hello!" you chirped in a voice that was way too cheerful for seven AM. "Can I get your order?" But your eyes kept flickering back and forth between the two.

For one thing, the male, probably about twenty or even nineteen, looked like someone from your past. Someone you saw a lot but never knew his name. The shaggy black hair and youthful face. . . you just couldn't put your finger on it.

But on the other hand, the female looked a lot like you. Same (H/L) (H/C) hair, (S/C) skin, (E/C) eyes; it was like looking in a mirror. Only difference was probably the age and height.

She could be your twin, almost.

"You can go first, (O/Y/N)," the male said.

"Uh. . ." (O/Y/N) peered at the menu. "I haven't decided yet, Hiro. You go."

Hiro! That was. . . Tadashi's brother. That's why he looks so familiar. But why is he here? Is this his girlfriend or something? You noticed the ring on her finger. Wait, his wife? What? You had to bite down on the inside of your cheek to keep from bursting into laughter. Is it a coincidence? It has to be.

"I'll just have a coffee," Hiro said, smiling.

You couldn't take it anymore. Casually, you wrote down his order on your notepad, then blurted. "How's Tadashi and Cass, Hiro?"

Hiro's face became a mixture of confusion, shock, then even regret. "E-excuse me?"

"You've grown a lot, Hiro," you said, stifling a laugh.

"Who are you?" (O/Y/N) asked curiously.

You finally let out a chuckle. "I'm (Y/N). . . I was good friends with Tadashi before I moved when I was young." Funny how you met Hiro across the country. In this little cafe.

Wow, it's a small world.

"(Y/N)?" Hiro's eyebrows furrowed, and (O/Y/N) gave him a puzzled look. "That girl Tadashi talked about or something?"

"It was a long time ago, I don't expect you to remember." You turned to (O/Y/N). "What can I get you today?"

"Wait, wait," Hiro said. "(Y/N), I remember now. You moved away to New York and here you are! This is awesome!"

You laughed and shrugged. "Anyway, what happened to Tadashi?"

An awkward silence fell over the couple as soon as you mentioned your old friend's name. "W-what?" you asked nervously. Did you say something wrong?

"I-it's a long story," Hiro murmured.

You froze, heart plummeting to your feet. "Wait. . . what happened? Is he. . .?"

"Yeah," (O/Y/N) said quietly.

You couldn't believe it. "O-oh. . ."

(O/Y/N) forced a smile. "I'll have a (Favorite Drink), please. Your manager is probably waiting. When you can get off, we'll let you catch up on everything."

It was a long story, indeed.

It turns out that (O/Y/N), who had been living on her own when she was a teen, met the Hamada brothers right when her wealthy dad and her new stepmom returned. Her stepmom had a daughter, who was basically (O/Y/N)'s enemy who was living in San Fransokyo. It really is a small world. (O/Y/N) and her stepsister finally got along, then her dad died. Right about that time she and Hiro became a couple, but her stepmother moved them to NYC.

When (O/Y/N) became old enough, she moved back to San Fransokyo with Hiro and got engaged. That was it. They were just here for vacation.

"I-I think you're forgetting something," you said awkwardly.

Hiro and (O/Y/N) exchanged a look. "Okay, I'll tell her. . ." Hiro said. "Callaghan - that's the name of the teach at SFIT - was using me to get (O/Y/N)'s dad's money because he would kill her if I didn't. And I didn't want that to happen."

At the mention of the elite bot builder, your blood turned to ice. "Go on."

"We got into this big argument, and Tadashi and his friends joined us. We used our knowledge in science to make us some armor with abilities. We managed to kill Callaghan, b-but. . . Tadashi. . . he sacrificed himself. . ."

Your jaw fell open. This sounded like some poorly written fanfiction. "They're dead?"

"Y-yes. . . why, did you have a history with the professor, too?" (O/Y/N) asked.

You nodded.

"Anyway, after (O/Y/N) moved, she met this guy who was part of an organization. They lived on an isolated island. So Callaghan hired them to go after (O/Y/N) if he ever died and couldn't continue his job. But that one guy had his own individual job to protect (O/Y/N)'s dad that he received a long time ago. He couldn't choose, so he ended up going back and forth and confusing everyone. I almost got killed by the guy, but then saved." Hiro looked down. "We finally got rid of the leader and this guy became the new one. Then we never saw him again."

"My stepsister got married to this guy's best friend," (O/Y/N) said. "And now she doesn't live here anymore."

"(Y/N), can you tell us your story? Tadashi mentioned a few words here and there, but I never heard the whole thing," Hiro asked.

"S-sure." Maybe it was time you became more open about your past, anyway. And with that, you told them everything.

Don't worry, everyone's going to be back :)

That includes the OCs I made in Love, Hiro.
