You settled down on the floor as Emil sat down on his bed. "What is it, Emil?"
Emil buried his face into a stuffed Pikachu. He blew his greyish-blonde locks out of his lavender eyes as they peeked glumly out at you. "I feel bad, (Y/N)-chan. For a whole year you were in trouble and I didn't even do anything. Maybe if I was a little more helpful you wouldn't be leaving."
You blinked at him. "Emil, it's confirmed I'm going to go. There's no point crying over something that already happened."
"B-but. . ."
You sighed. "You can cry, you big weeb. I won't judge you." You rested your chin in your palm. "I didn't know I was that close to you. Never thought someone would get upset over my disappearance."
Emil looked up. "I would. B-because. . ."
"You want me to cosplay with you," you guessed, picking up a stuffed Happy from Fairy Tail. You didn't know Emil could act like such a big baby. His big eyes glistened like he was going to cry.
"N-no, that's not it." He buried the lower half of his face into the Pikachu again. "W-watashi wa, anata o a-aishiteimasu," he mumbled into the plush.
You gave him a funny look, then took out your phone. "How do you spell that?" you asked, scrolling into Google Translate.
Emil's voice was muffled. "I-it means-"
The phone in your hand blasted out your ringtone. It was your mother. "Excuse me," you said, then answered it. "Hello?"
"(Y/N), are you 'hanging out' with your friends again? We need help packing! Can you get home now?" your mom practically yelled into the phone. Her voice pulled away as she called, "(Dad's Name)! That's delicate!" followed by a shattering noise in the background.
You pressed your lips together. "Uh, okay. I'll be right there." You hung up and turned to Emil. "Emil, you told me it's better to be happy." You took the corners of his lips and tugged them into a smile. "So be it, okay? I need to go help my parents before they break anything else." You hurried out of the room. "Bye!"
Emil watched the door swing shut as you left. He was alone again. "I-it means. . ." he stuttered to himself.

You shoved a box into the growing pile into the living room moodily as your parents sat by and basically made you do all the work as they supervised and talked about your new apartment in New York City.
You listened half heartedly as they talked about your school and whatever, and was relieved when your phone rang. You quickly broke free from your parents' tedious conversation and headed into the kitchen to answer.
"Hey, dudette!" Allen said once you picked up. "How did the thingy with Emil go?"
"I think he's okay. But you basically dumped him on me, you jerk."
"So he actually opened the door? Sweet." Allen made some loud crunching noises into the phone. "When are you leaving again?"
You snorted. "Excited, huh? We're leaving a week after the last day of school, which is next week." You paused. "And I can hear you chewing."
Allen responded with an extra-loud crunch. "I guess you're not planning to patch things up with you and Tadashi in those two weeks, right?"
"I don't know. There's still a chance."
"Promise you'll come back to visit or something."
"No guarantees."
"Okay, bye!" He hung up, probably to eat more chips.
You stuffed the phone back into your pocket and walked back to the living room to continue packing/physical labor.
I don't think I'll ever find friends like them in my new place.
