You weaved your way through the crowd, earning a couple of annoyed looks. They better not be doing anything to (F/N)! She's only nine, like me.

You were running quite fast, so of course you would hit someone eventually. You collided with someone, flailing as you tried to dodge him or her. Fortunately, it was just a lady who immediately in a hurry. Unfortunately, you were shoved to the side and onto the sidewalk. "Sorry, sweetheart!" the lady called after her, hurrying away. The sound of her high heels clicking against the sidewalk faded.

Darn it, you thought. The money (F/N) had given you had fallen out of your pocket and was currently resting on the cement in front of you. You quickly lunged forward to grab it, but someone beat you to it.

It was a little boy with scruffy black hair. "Look, Dashi! Now we can buy candy!" he exclaimed to the taller boy beside him.

You wanted to snatch the money back, but since he was a little kid and your elbow and knee were on fire, you decided to stay silent.

"We don't have time to," 'Dashi' replied. "Aunt Cass is already waiting for us, and besides, that money doesn't belong to you."

"I found it!" the shorter boy protested.

"Um," you piped up feebly. "That's mine."

"Told you," Dashi told the other boy smugly.

The little boy scowled and handed the money back to you. "You're a mean big brother!" he complained.

"It's okay, Hiro," his older brother soothed. "I brought money, and we can get candy on our way back home." He turned to you. "Are you okay?"

You nodded, then got to your feet. ". . . Thanks."

"Look, Tadashi, she's bleeding," Hiro observed, sucking on his thumb.

"I'm okay," you assured the little boy. Tadashi looked reluctant, but left with Hiro anyway.

Now, let's get back to finding that Elite Bot Builder team.

The truck was still parked at the curb, and you felt slightly worried. You knocked on the side of the truck, and the lady from earlier peered outside. "FN - 2614! Just in time, we finished setting u-" She noticed you. "Oh, hello."

"Hi," you said, trying not to sound scared. "Is (F/N) here?"

"FN - 261-" she paused. "I mean, (F/N) isn't here." She smiled at you. "Can I help you with something?"

Yeah, you can leave this town and never encounter me again. You shook your head. "No. Thanks anyway. . . "

"No problem!" she chirped, then went back into the truck. You just stood there for a moment, your head spinning. Then does that mean (F/N) is really. . . ?

"No," you said out loud. "(F/N) isn't a robot."

"Don't you mean FN - 2614?" a male voice asked. You turned to see the man blinking at you curiously as he walked out with a cardboard box bristling with metal items. Probably for bot building.

Once he caught your eye, he halted. "Oh. Hello."

"Where's (F/N)?" you demanded.

His face filled with understanding and sympathy. "I take it that (F/N) didn't tell you yet?"

"T-tell me what?" Your chest filled with dread.

The man shook his head sadly. "This is why you don't befriend people so easily without knowing who they truly are."

"Tell me!" you burst out. "(F/N) is my friend, and I don't care if she's some half-girl, half-robot."

The man set down the box in front of you and knelt so he was the same level as you. "Actually, she's completely robot."

You swallowed down the lump forming in your throat. "What do you mean?" you whispered. You held your hands to your mouth in fear, staring at the man who was crouched in front of you. Your (H/L) (H/C) hair framed your face.

The man patted the box beside him, letting out a gusty sigh. "FN - 2614 was an experimental robot-"

"Don't call her that!" you exclaimed.

The man gave you a worried look, as if he was concerned that you would explode with anger or sadness or both. "(F/N) was an experimental robot that was created a while ago to test all our skills. She's quite old, considering she's nine years old and most robots we make last only one to three years."

"I-I don't get it," you stammered, ignoring the fact that he said was. "How did she eat, then? And grow and even use the bathroom?"

"That's all robot abilities,"the man explained. "She probably already told you she's doesn't have parents."

You wanted to cry and laugh and scream at the same time. But most of all, you wanted to punch this guy straight in the face and tell him to stop spouting weird stuff. "So - so she was never a human?"

"No," the man responded quietly. "I'm sorry. She should have told you earlier."

You pressed your lips together and silently observed the man. He did look genuinely sorry. He looked like he was in his late twenties.

"So it's (F/N)'s fault," you muttered.

"No, I never said that. But you should get going. We need to get to SFIT soon." The man stood up and brushed off his Aegean blue polo T-shirt.

SFIT? Isn't that the new science-y school? I heard they have lots of robots there. You nodded at the man, then turned away. Well, for one thing for sure, I never want to visit SFIT.

"Goodbye," the man called. You looked back, then caught the name tag on his shirt. It read 'Robert.'

Robert, huh? You stormed away.
