Lizzy's POV
-
Deep breaths, Lizzy. Deep breaths. Inhale: one, two, three, four. Hold: one, two, three, four. Exhale: one, two, three, four. I stop shaking as much.
Wobbling down the hall, I feel sick with anxiety. I just got discharged from the hospital, so I wanted to surprise V and show her what the disc does. But I also said I'd confess to her when I show her what the disc does. I wish I could take back what I said.
No I don't. I want to tell her.
But what if she rejects me?
Quit being ridiculous, Lizzy, I chide myself internally. She brought me flowers where our colors matched and hinted that it was on purpose with meaning. She won't reject me.
But what if it was just a friendly gesture?
I groan, shaking my head. Thad's apartment door is in front of me now. He's out camping with friends and today is V's day off. I won't get an opportunity like this again for... Robo-god knows how long. Today is perfect. I have to do this... before either of us "die" again.
But did I have to do this so EARLY!? Augh... my head feels groggy. I'd kill for coffee right now, even if it was Thad's nasty black coffee. Seriously, what kind of crazoid drinks coffee black!?
I press my thumbprint to the scanner, the door opening with a beep. Home. Though, really, home was just wherever V was now.
"Hey, Thad! You're back early," V's voice rings from the kitchen. Jars softly rattle as she rummages through the fridge. I turn the corner to see her tail swishing lowly behind her in a animated fashion. She can be adorable sometimes. Most times, really.
V shoves her head further into the kitchen appliance with a grunt. She's really searching for something, it seems. It's the perfect chance to surprise her.
I creep up behind V, softly tip-toeing.
"Any news about Lizzy?" V asks loudly, the fridge managing to still somewhat muffle her question. My heart gave a flutter at her question, but I stayed carefully quiet. Her tail stops swaying. "Thad?" She looks over her shoulder.
All I can think is to yell, "SURPRISE!"
Pro-tip: don't scare a Disassembly Drone.
V immediately shoots me with her now-missile-launcher hand. Fortunately for me, her eyes focus on me, and- realizing it's only me- the missle-launcher only shoots bubbling pink hearts at me.
She hides her gun behind her back, face coated in blush and body rigid. Then V shakes it off, relaxing and lunging forward to wrap her arms around me. I've missed her hugs.
"Idiot!" V yells, squeezing me into a hug so tight that I'm lifted off the ground. "Don't do that! I could've hurt you..." Her voice trails off and the hug becomes significantly less ferocious. V's body crumples down to hold me where I could still touch the ground.
"I missed you," I whisper softly into her neck. She smells good.
"I- I missed you too, Lizzy."
The fridge door slams closed on itself with a loud THUNK. V let's go of me and clears her throat.
"Shouldn't you be resting?" V asks pointedly, her hands on her hips.
"I'm fine," I scoff. "Besides, I wanted to show you what this does." I hand her the small disc. It's roughly the size of a cookie, colored neon magenta with black marker doodles on it.
She turns it over in her hands warily, looks to me, then resolutely pops it in her mouth and swallows it. "I don't feel any different," V admits.
I roll my eyes. "Just c'mon." I grab her hand and pull her to the apartment window. The sun hasn't risen yet. Good.
