"Tell me how we're not alike but we work so well and we don't even know why."
|Nova Sinclair |
"Six hundred." The woman spits out, hands on her hips.
"Two hundred." I reply with equal vile.
The silver, very old ring sits between us. It looked cursed but it was so fucking beautiful and I wanted it the moment I laid my eyes on it.
But this old woman is insisting I pay seven hundred for it. I'm not letting that happen.
"You either give me six hundred or you leave, stupid girl." She points at me.
"Fine." I put my hand on the table and look her dead in the eyes, "Three hundred."
"Four." Oh my god she's almost as insufferable as Theo. Almost.
Theo is beside me, very amused by my bargaining with the woman.
"Three- fifty." I say with a finalized tone.
For a moment, me and her have a staring contest then she says, "Fine." With a sigh.
I smile and pay her, "Thank you."
"You're a vicious one, girl." She laughs and shakes her head, then looks at Theo. "Better be careful with that girlfriend of yours."
"She's not–" Theo stammers as I move away from there, eyes on a old pocket watch. I don't hear what he says after that.

The fluorescent lights buzzed lights overhead of the holding cell in the police station, the cold floor hard and rough.
Beside me, Theo is staring at the ceiling in vain, sighing deeply like he was a woman in the Victorian era posing for a painting.
"Are you mad at me?" I ask suddenly.
"Yes."
I sit up straighter, "What did I do?"
Let me take you back a few hours earlier.
Theo and me were roaming around in the crowded, less touristy spot of Prague. I spotted a wall filled with graffiti.
There was a poster that caught my eye, a pencil sketch of a couple almost kissing, their faces distorted.
I liked it very much. So I did what any sane person would do– peel it off and keep it.
But.
It wasn't a random poster on a graffiti wall, apparently. It was an art piece of a local artist and someone called the cops on me.
Theo just happened to be there so he's also arrested. We've been here for hours now, without lunch.
"How I supposed to know it was a fucking art piece?" I exclaimed.
